Hi. I think my dog had his leg amputated the same day as yours. We have found recovery a bit of a rollercoaster, too and can relate to some of your experiences talked about above.

No advice. I just wanted to say you are doing a great job being so attentive to Bosley! How lucky he is to have you. I also said a prayer for you and he.

I think so too, i’v Been keeping up with your story as well. After such a bad evening, Bosley slept through the night for the first time 🙌🏻 I really wish there was a manual or play book for how to care for tripawds 😕

Roller coaster indeed! It took me three weeks before I could finally  say I did this FOR my Happy Hannah and not TO her!  And YAY for a good night's sleep!

As .long as no sign of infection, eating, pooping, drinking, peeing, no fever, no overdoing it...yeah, just the roller coaster of recovery!!!   Getting over MAJOR surgery while adjusting  to three legs is no picnic st first.  Bosley will continue  to have more and more of his sparkle come back sloooowly vut surely.

Just a quick update on Bosley, Surgeon called today to confirm the biopsy results from the amputation and it is definitely Osteosarcoma. He also said that he should be getting a little better each day at this point. His pain should also be decreasing as well. I told him that I’ve noticed that for the past few days Bosley has consistently been ok (sleeping mostly) during the day then around 4-5pm he will start showing the pain signs until around 9-10pm when he goes to bed. Dr said if he doesn’t show any more improvement he wants to see him Monday when we take him for suture removal to check him over and make sure they didn’t miss anything.

Let's  see, it's day ten, and for an older, "sensitive" doggy, that's still very early in recovery. With your Bet's guidance, you can ask about maybe giving a little less Tramadol  to see if that's  causing  of jis distress.  Some dogs don't  handle Tramadol  as well as others.  Then again, it could still be a sign of pain.  Just so hard to tell.  200 Gaba  3 × a day, plus 200 Tram 3 x a day, should be ample coverage...should be.  Maybe when the sutures come out that will help too.  They could be causing  some discomfort, pinching nor poking.

Try lots of gentle  massage all up and down his spine, his shoulders and neck area when all this starts up.  May help relax his muscles.

Update us Monday.

PS. As far as the biopsy results, Bosle didn't  hear a thing😉

I am so mad right now! I’ve been cooped up in the house ever since Bosley came home from the hospital and have been very careful not to let him out of my sight for more than a minute or two so I can keep an eye on him and make sure he doesn’t bother his stitches. Bosley hasn’t had to wear the dreaded cone of shame because I’ve been so diligent about watching him. He hadn’t touched his incision so it was healing beautifully.

Hubby offered to watch Bosley for 3 hours for me so I can go watch our billet sons’ hockey game and get some time out of the house. 3 hours y’all! It took my husband only three hours to undo all of my hard work in making sure the stitches remained untouched 😡 Now Bos has two spots that look inflamed and angry and I don’t know if they will be able to remove them or not this Monday. Monday!!! 2 days away and hubby decides to slack off on the supervision 🤦🏼‍♀️ Uuuggh!

I'm so sorry to hear that, total bummer.

When the stitches dry up during the second week, that's when the critters really want to go at it. Poor Bos.

I hope the vet can relieve his discomfort. I would keep the cone on until you see your vet.

Oh my! Hubby is really in the doghouse!!  Bad boy!!

I know this is so frustrating.   For whatever it's  worth, it does  happen....and even with the most diligent  care sometimes.  Ugh!

Don't  know of you've  ever seen a TV show called "Snapped".  It's  about spouses who just SNAP in a fit of uncontrollable  rage with disastrous  results  for the other.  Anyway, we don't  want to see you on rhis show!!  Just leep hubby in the doghouse and out of your sight for awhile! 😂🤣😂

Lol, he’s out now, no snapping for me. I can’t wait to take him to get his sutures out tomorrow.

Stitches Are Out! Surgeon said everything looks great, might take another week for the sores to go away (no licking of course) and still on rest for another week or two.

Supposed to stop the tramadol and in 3 days, cut the Gabapentin back by 1/2, then in another 3 days stop the Gab and just do the Rimadyl for another 3 days then he’s off the meds completely! I just got him to the point where he wasn’t panting and shaking too much during the day so Fingers crossed this tapering down works. 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Also, during the night when I woke up to check on him, he was sleeping on his surgery side, so I’m really hoping he’s turning a corner for the better in his recovery. Hope y’all have a great day!

Wheeeee! So glad all that worrying is over, how wonderful. and I love your vet's tapering plan for the medications, that sounds totally reasonable.

Cheers to you both for a pawesome recovery!

Y’all we’re 17 days PO and Bosley’s doing soooo much better. He’s perking up more, the shaking is barely there any more, he’s getting up to eat now instead of me bringing the food to him and he’s starting to come tell me he wants to go outside like he used to. He even stood in the sun for a bit for me to rub on him while he basked. Then he even stopped by the treat jar and wagged his tail before going straight to his bed to lay back down. So thankful he’s coming back 🥰

That is fantastic! There is nothing like watching the sparkle come back and Bosley is rockin' it! I'm so happy to hear the joy in your voice and know he's doing great. Thank you for taking time to update. Got any pics to share?
