Hmmm, this is a tricky one. It's PAWESOME that she is showing her sparkle and enjoying the excursions, those are fantastic signs that she's on her way to recovery.

With the acupuncture, it generally takes 4-6 sessions before you see some very visible results. It sounds like her pain is getting under control, another wonderful milestone.

If she is on the same medication in the day and she doesn't have the anxiety outbursts, my guess is that at her age, she could be experiencing cognitive impairment. "Sundowners syndrome" at night happens in humans and dogs, and it's as I understand, a generalized anxiety about having to go to bed because the person / dog is confused about what time of day it is. Let your vet know about the behavior when you chat. This could be unrelated to the amputation and easily fixed with the right medication combo. It's not at all uncommon but obviously very upsetting, I totally understand that. What does get her to sleep eventually?

She seems to enjoy sleeping in a dog bed in our living room since the surgery (she's slept in/on our bed with us for almost all of her life), perhaps because the dog beds have those little sidewalls and she can prop her head up on it. Just guessing. But she eventually falls asleep in one of those all curled up, at least for a few hours. We'll consult our vet. She seems fine in the day, and it would be a terrible coincidence if it was indeed a cognitive issue that just happened to spring up now, but it's totally possible. Thanks for the insight.

Hmmmm......so when she naps in the day, she doesn't  seem to have these episodes?

Wonder if something. Is causing  her pain in a specific  "sleep position "...she anticipates  "sleeping hurts", thus all the extra anxiety  before bed???  Even could be leg cramps or back spasms  of some  sort when curled up?  I'm  sure we'be asked before, but any signs of tens when you massage up and down her spine, her neck, shoulders, etc.?   And when she does start pacing, etc, do massages help her relax at all?

Dunno...just throwing  stuff out there.
