So Bonz is doing well. 1 month now since surgery. He loves his walks though there is some cute albeit loving funniness to the fact our walks now go in a small 40 ft circle cause he pulls the to the left lol.
Very uncharacteristic of him though is he has pooped in the house 4 times in the last few weeks. He never does that . Unless he is sick for some reason. I try to get home at lunch every day by noon but still he ends up pooping on the floor at times. The stool looks normal. It is not runny at all. He poops outside when he needs to. I let him out in the morning for about 20 minutes before I go to work. He is out in the backyard about 4 hours after dinner.
I know NSAIDS can cause some stomach issues so could carprofen be causing it? Or would that manifest itself in diahrea?
Also strange question. Now that his leg is amputated.. Not that his leg weighed a lot but could it be the reduction of body mass and me not reducing his food intake makes him poop more?
Maybe just adjusting to 3 legs makes him a little less PATIENT and it will pass?
So my girl, Shelby, had some accidents post amp. I can't recall if Bonz is a rear or front amp (Shelby was a rear amp). She would be sitting there and out would come some poop. Pretty easy to pick up but out of the ordinary.
Her vets told me that perhaps she wasn't fully eliminating when she pooped outside (as a rear amp girl, that was some strength on her remaining leg so perhaps she couldn't squat as long). It eventually stopped and no more issues.
I don't know about the food intake but that was our issue and it seemed to clear up. Sounds a bit different than your story but wanted to toss that out there.
Way to go on one month!!! YAY!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife
My beloved Happy Hannah didn't have that issue, but Alison's explanation of why it was happening with Shelby sure makes sense.
I'm so glad that Bonz is doing well! His story...your commitment...just make me want tk stand up and xheer!!! In fact, I'll stand up and cheer and applaud wildly right now.....

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Glad to hear everything else is going well. I'm wondering if this is more age-related and not Tripawd related? Regular pooping accidents (with normal poops) in the house are common in older dogs from what I understand. If the poops are normal I might not be that concerned, but it would be something to talk to your vet about during your next regular visit.
In our own experience with NSAIDs and GI upset, it usually manifests with runny, black stools.

As dogs get older, accidents do happen. I keep reusable piddle pads down in the kitchen for Nixon. I buy PoochPads because they come in so many sizes. You can get them off of amazon for a pretty decent price or sign up on their website for coupons. The largest size is 4 feet by 5 feet. The large size also makes a great stretcher. They also make build your own size doggy rest area with fake grass. You just connect as many as you need until you have the right size. Since Nixon has no problems using a piddle pad, I didn't feel the need to use fake grass.
The first two months after amputation, we had some accidents in the house. There was a period of adjustment especially feeding. I was overfeeding him and did cause some of the accidents. It isn't just the weight of the leg has changed, the activity level has changed too.
