You ABSOLUTELY deserve to celebrate these victories! She's EATING and you SLEPT? YAYYY!!!

Sooo many dogs have trouble eating even at this point, for her to have an appetite and eat food like that is wonderful!

I'm not surprised she's in the bathroom. Again, keep in mind that in the wild, dogs will go off on their own and into a den to recover and get strong. The bathroom is her den for now. She's on the road to recovery.

Ahhhh ...  it's her den! That does make sense. She must feel safer in there somehow. And I am sure it really smells like me. It's just awkward because it's a small bathroom and navigating around her to actually use it myself is a bit of a challenge.

She definitely has her appetite back - not that it really ever left but she was turning her nose up at some food. Now she will eat almost everything I put in front of her and is back to her needy/begging ways (almost too aggressive sometimes).

Oh and Sally, spin class has nothing to do w/'roaching' (that would be more yoga). It's an indoor cycling class! Fitness, cardio and exercise (and lots of wine) are my stress relief. Getting back to my normal workout schedule will definitely help my anxiety which will help keep her calm.

Thankful for a 3 day weekend in gorgeous So.Cal so we might just sit outside (on a blanket for her of course) so she can get some vitamin D therapy. She always loved sitting outside so hopefully she'll feel up to it this weekend. No beach yet though.

Thank you for the support. Feeling slightly less anxious today... actually feeling cautiously optimistic and thanking God and our lucky stars for the road to recovery!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. Guess who greeted me with a tail wagging when I got home!?!? Someone came out of her den (aka my bathroom). She's been in great spirits since I got home - provided I pay attention to her so I'll make this brief. I'm also going to run out and get us some french fries (healthy eating going out the window with all this)!

Nesting behind me and the couch. She has never been a clingy dog so this is totally surprising to me.

Getting her some more doggy valium and we're going to hold off on the phantom leg pain pill until next week since she seems to be improving. She gets her stitches out next Tuesday - hard to believe it's almost been 2 weeks. Today is day 8 post-amp! Mom is finally feeling calmer! Thank you all for the love! smiley

Hmmm... boo on no photos! Let's try again! :-) She seems good so far tonight. She does not, however, like riding in the car which used to be one of her favorite things. I think it must still hurt her. :-( But if that's all we have to give up, we'll find a work around for sure!

Yay - way to go Shelby!  How lovely that she came to meet you at the door.  Really sounds like she's starting to get her spirits back.

Really interesting to hear about the den bit - Eva has been taking herself off to a bed in our bedroom (we are all on one level) to sit on her own for quite long periods.

Hope you enjoyed the fries!

We had another good/decent night. I am trying not to let it bug me that she's taken over my bathroom (actually gets quite anxious and annoyed when I need to be in there like in the a.m. when I am getting ready for work). But overall, she seems to be getting back to normal. She did get a little slow/tired on our 2nd walk this a.m. (really was just taking her out for a quick pee since she's home for about 9 hours by herself). I am thankful I can carry her up and down the stairs - even in heels! 🙂

She gets her stitches out Tuesday and I have a 3 day weekend w/her so we're both excited. I am sure she will remain camping out in the bathroom. It's just so bizarre.

Last night, sitting on the floor she was nestled up to me and snoring away ... I think she got some good rest.

This was the look I got when I tried to get BACK into the bathroom to finish getting ready for work. I finally stepped over her and dried my hair - and she hates the hair dryer but yet didn't move so clearly she's marking her territory. Maybe the bathroom is also the place that smells/feels the most like me so she's happy in there? My friends tell me that it's how she's decided to roll so to let her go w/it.  Happy Friday (day #9 post-amp).

SWEEEEET photos! I love the "look" she's giving you in "her" bathroom! Clearly you are intruding!

So glad she gets her stitches out soon and she'll be out of that cone.
I'm in agreement withmyor friends......"that's how she decided to roll so let her go with it"! At least she hasn't tried to take over your high heels! Yetwinker

YAAAAAAAY for another restful night! Recovery is in full swing!

You are doing a great job rolling with it!

I like your theory about why she's in the bathroom. Humans consistently underrate a dog's olfactory capabilities. I'm guessing she feels really safe there because it's small, and it smells good to her.

Yay! Things are getting better and better. That is wonderful!

10 days post amp! I cannot believe how fast this past week has flown by. Last night I went out with some friends for much neeeded R&R and grown-up behavior and while there was some moderate pouting as I was getting ready to leave, she was fine. I have kept her off the Trazadone for over 24 hours and she seems fine. She does periodically shake for no real reason. She isn't panting and I've read that some other dogs get the shakes too so I guess that's part of the process.

She gets her stitches out Tuesday and I do suspect they might itch her. Last night was the first night that when she had her cone off, she actually looked at her wound and leaned for it. Phantom pain OR itching?!? Either way, I put that cone right back on her! She can eat/drink w/it on and actually likes it as a pillow.

My friends got her a ton of treats so I'll never have to buy dog cookies again! She's such a lucky girl. It's supposed to be super hot in LA today (again) so I think when I get back from working out, I'll let her sit outside and bask in the sunshine on a towel. She did sleep in the bathroom again last night but came to visit me and check on me.  Her beds are pretty flat but she won't lay on any of them anymore... so bizarre. But she's in the main room w/me now!

I think we are continuing to heal and be on the upswing! I'll see how she does all day since I'll be home w/her! Personally, I would like to snuggle and nap all day but not sure she will feel stable sitting on my bed w/me yet. 🙁

I'm glad you got to get out! I'll bet that was just waht the doctor ordered.

Sounds like things are going well other than the stitches incident. So glad it wasn't worse. YAY!

Oh and you can always snuggle and nap on the floor ;)
