Not the news we wanted to hear today for Ava

Not the happy new year we had wanted so far 🙁

Just got a call from our vets that the margins were not there from histopathology reports of the nerve sheath tumor so Ava's amputation surgery was not curative.   She still needed the surgery though and her chest x-ray prior to surgery was clear.   Radiation could be an answer but my family and I are not sure we want to go down that path.

She is doing so well 13 days post op almost and has the sparkle back in her eyes and we want to preserve that for as long as we can.

Our hearts are breaking.

First kf all, the fact that Ava is alreadw starting to get her sparkle back this early, just thirteen days after surgery, is quite remarkable!!  Thats quite a testament to what a strong dog she is.

While it's not the news you want to hear, it doesn't mean that it's the end of the road by  any means.   Others will chime in with more insight into this, vut I know that clean margins are not always possible, but good quality extended time can DEFINITELY be obtained.  Others may have suggestions for other options with good results.   Ava has already shown she is made of "strong stuff".

And remember, nothe about this report means anything to Ava!  All Ava knows is she's feeling better and better and ready to get on with mlre loving and spoiling and yummy treats!!

Lots of hugs

Thank you Sally!   She is such a sweet and loving dog and the strongest one I know too!  Each day we have with her is a treasure!

Awww I'm sorry about that, I'm sure it did feel like a punch in the gut. But you have such a great attitude. And as Sally mentioned, Ava doesn't know about what the report said and she wouldn't care if she did. To her, all that matters is feeling good and getting back to the best things in this world, YOU of course!

You have done the most important thing, which is to help her feel better quickly, for as long as possible. Everything else is icing on the cake!

Nobody knows how long we have to enjoy this life. None of us come with an expiration date. All we can do is follow the examples of animals. Live every day to the fullest, stop and smell the flowers and send lots of love out in this world to make the most of every moment. Be More Dog and you can't go wrong.

Give Ava extra smooches from us and keep us posted on her adventures OK?

Thank you!   We cried a bit this morning as we heard the news but now we have a renewed hope that whatever time we have left with Ava will be much better than having never had her in our lives.     We want to make her as comfortable as possible and fill her life with love. Love the Be More Dog analogy and so very true too!
