Fever went down overnight , but went back up to 104 this morning. Such a roller coaster ride this has been. He is , as we speak, getting more xrays and an ultrasound. Vet is really concerned that there is cancer somewhere else. I have made the decision that he is so sick, that if that is the case, I need to do the easiest thing for him. Hardest for me. I honestly think he would just keep going because he knows how hard it is for me to say goodbye. If tests show nothing cancer wise, she is still concerned that the infection is not responding to meds. I am going to suggest antifungal also. I bet they love me down there. I will repost as soon as I know anything more, but I got the feeling from his Dr. that she is really worried for him.
TY GUY, Best Black Lab ever! Diagnosed and had amp in January, 2014. Kicked MRSA's butt. Earned his angel wings on April 16, 2014. Run Free my boy and don't forget a shoe. Ty is a proud member of the " April Angels". Ty sent us Daryl, a Tripawd rescue in Sept. of 2016. Daryl is 5 +or -. We are also Pawrents to Chandler, a Border Collie mix who is 15 and 1/2, Lucy, a Corgi who is 7, 2 minis, 2 horses, and a feisty cat named Zoe. Zoe had a non skeletal Osteosarcoma removed in July 2015. No Chemo, she was at least 16. She is going strong although she is now completely blind. She is now close to 20 and her hobbies are eating and sleeping in front of her personal heater.
How could they not love you and Ty?! Besides...we do!!
Good to suggest the antifungal. Who kmows...could be the answer?!
If he has not other indcationof anything else from the xrays, what else is the vet able to do to dtermine the particular strain of infection? Can she send...cultures...blood work...maybe t a teaching school or some speciallab that can determne the strain so they can get the proper antibiodic? Just throwing stuff out there and hoping something sticks!
If the antibiotics brought the fever down last night, alng with the fluids...seems like something must have helped some. Even back to 104 is still lower thanlast night.
Is there anyway you can bring him home and do the fuids, etc. at home. Just being at the vets can make it go up a little.
We're all here with you...just wishing we could do something...we're here though.
Sending you contnued love and continuing healing energy for Ty.

Oh I am so sad to read this ... I was really hoping I would log in today and see a great news update!!! I can't believe it's the cancer. It doesn't make sense to have such a high fever but I'm not a vet and this is my first journey. I hope they can figure it out soon.
Sending you positive energy!!!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

It is NOT cancer! No signs ANYWHERE! That is the good news. The bad news is , he is still very sick. they have added an antibiotic, just to appease me I think. I have been worried about Babiosis. They sent away a panel for all of those infections but it will be a week to get back. I am glad they went ahead and started new meds. He was so lethargic when I went to visit him today, I thought they had sedated him He did dig his heels in a bit when it was time to go back. he ate today. His temp when I called a bit ago is still 104.7. I am just at this point praying for a miracle.

That really is great news! YES!!!
The fact that he ate is a terrific sign that his body has more energy now. YAY!
We're hoping tomorrow is even better and the fever is gone. A week to get back the lab work seems like a very long time, that would make me craaaaaaaazy. But hang in there, we'll be here to support you.
