I know it's easy to feel like you let him down, but don't feel that way look at all you have done for him. You gave him every chance in the world to fight this awful thing. You are a great daddy to him and he knows it.
We are thinking of you.

Charles and Rock,
Rock is such a handsome boy! I am so sorry to read about the spread of Rock's cancer. I am new to the forums and just started reading from the beginning of Rock's story. At the beginning of this, I was so excited to hear he was doing so good. My Brendol is also going down this same path and your Rock looks like he could be her brother, so I felt additionally attached to his story. Then I got to these latest posts, and my heart just sank. It is the outcome I think most of us fear. I really don't know what else to say. May your love for each other get both of you through this very difficult time.
Karma and Brendol
Adelaide is a young tripawd Husky, from an injury. Her amp was on 10/1/12. She has 4 sisters, Aissa (a senior border collie/chow), Maggie May (a puppy Great Pyrenees), Mathilde and Morrigan and 1 baby brother, Bagheera. We are all watched over by our angel Brendol, who was dx with OSA 1/30/13, amp on 2/6/13, and left us on 8/20/13.
You can read their stories at http://adelaide.tripawds.com and http://brendol.tripawds.com
Charles, you are doing everything right, believe it or not. You are letting Rock lead, you are following but making sure he knows you are right there with him. It's all you can do.
One thing you are doing so absolutely right is the special things you'd have never done years ago, like the sandwich. It is so much better (and useful) at this point to spend your time making memories you will love than to try to keep to some strict regimen of diet and supplements, etc. You are giving him a really wonderful life right now. Even if it feels as if Rock might not have the best life at the moment, have you looked at it from his perspective? He would say he is getting so many special things that he was never allowed before, or more of them. He may be wondering what kind of sucker you've turned into!
Humans like to do. They like to plan and act and solve. Cancer requires us to admit they can't do those things. Humans also like to win. If you can change how you look at Rock's journey and his life--just a little--you can see that indeed Rock has won. He has you, his home, his family, a ton of love, a chicken parmesan sandwich, toys, medical care, someone to pick him up and carry him gently and lovingly outside...From where I sit, that's a win. Don't be too hard on yourself. You enabled Rock to have all those wins. His opinion of you matters most. And it's obvious he loves you.

Awww, I can see and feel the love just by those photos. Rock knows that he means the world to you, he knows he's had a wonderful life with the people he was meant to be with. Please don't beat yourself up, you are an awesome pawrent who is so giving, so caring, it's what we all hope for the animals in this world.
It hurts so much to get to this point in the journey, but try to hold those tears back for another time. Right now, eat more of his favorite foods together, enjoy every precious minute. Like Shari said, you ARE doing so much for him, you are doing exactly what is beautiful and loving and so needed at this point in his life. You are there for him. No dog could ask for more.

hello all , today has been the hardest day of my life. My baby and best friend Rock has pass away today in home today surrounded by his family and other siblings. On behalf of Rock i would like to thank everyone for their kind words and positive out look on rock .Rock recently celebrated his 13th birthday and loved every part of it . He was fighting all the way till the end he received 3 doses to make him relaxed and over an hour it took before we finally sent him to run in the fields of heaven . He will be missed so much i can not speak words to put it in context. i will upload some pics and videos as well as a memorial page for him and will share the link with the community here.
Oh, Rock. We will miss you! You are a stunning, strong boy. I'm so happy to hear your last days and hours were some of the happiest and surrounded by all your people. Run free, run fast, run without pain, and enjoy your endless hours of playtime with all our buddies on the other side of the Bridge.
I'm so sorry for you loss. He was a beautiful dog and I know how strong the bond IS. He'll never be forgotten. May time's easing powers come swiftly to you so you can remember him with more smiles than tears.
We'll miss you, Rock.
ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12. Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ! No side effects. We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments. He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors! Our love. Our funny little guy!
Oh Charles, I am so so sorry for your loss. This is not an easy battle we fight, but we do it because we love our babies more than anything and please take comfort in knowing that Rock knew you fought this battle with and for him. You battled this disease as best you could and did everything you could for your best friend and thats the best gift you could have given him.
I would like to tell you that yours one was on the first posts I read here when I felt completely lost about two weeks before my kitty's surgery and seeing your boy THRIVING on three legs gave me so much comfort. Please take comfort in knowing that you've helped at least (and I'm sure more) one person on their journey by sharing your boys' story. He handled his battle with courage, joy and strength.
It's trite, but time will heal your wounds and you will be able to look back on your time with Rock and smile. For now, take comfort in knowing that he is running around in heaven playing and making new friends at his healthiest.
We are here for you, whatever you need. Please come to the chat room , there are a bunch of us there every night if you need to talk.
All my best,
Erica

Charles,
I am so sorry to hear of Rock's passing. Everytime I read of one of our Warriors passing I cry. Know that you gave your boy the best in his life and he knows you loved him. Run free Rock and you have many many angels there to great you on that Rainbow Bridge.
Erica is right if you want to come talk there are a bunch of us that hang in the chat room at night. You don't even have to say anything if you don't want just know that there are people who share your journey and know how you feel.
God Bless,

I'm so sorry, Charles. If there is any good in this, it is that Rock had the love of his family for 13 years. He had a long life and a good life. He just happened to have 3 legs, but that was by no means the majority of his life. He loved you and knew how much you loved him. I always think our dogs make us better people, and that's always a good thing.
I wish you peace and comfort in the 13 years of happy memories your family made with Rock.

Charles,
My heart is breaking for you. I know all to well about the pain your are dealing with. We had to say goodbye to Cadence on 02/20. Rock fought this battle like a true warrior. He was lucky to be surrounded by so much love. I know you loved him so very much and did everything possible to help him during his journey. He thrived because you made sure he was well taken care of. Cancer does not play fair and it leaves us feeling so helpless. You were by Rock's side until the end. He knew love and he felt your love surrounding him as you said goodbye. There are no words that I can say that make it any easier. When I feel like I am about to start crying again, I think about something silly that Cadence did, and it makes me smile. I hope Rock and Cadence have met up and are hanging out together. Please know that you are in my thoughts. I hope with time, the pain will ease and happy memories will replace the sadness.

I am so sorry Charles. My heart is breaking for you. I look at those photos and see a dog with love and contentment in his eyes. He looks so happy. What a wonderful life he must have had. He clearly loved you and knew that you loved him.
Many hugs

Charles, the collective heart of the Tripawds community is broken tonight knowing that Rock has earned his wings. We are so, so sorry.
I know how much this hurts, how hard it is to say goodbye. When you lose such a big part of your life, it's hard to believe the tears will stop and things will look brighter. But when I look at these photos of you and Rock, I know that the very special bond that you shared, the life that you built together, will outshine the tremendous sadness that you, your family and the Tripawds community is experiencing today.
May the love that grew between you keep brightening this world and inspire other Tripawd families for years to come.
Rock, you will never be forgotten. You will always be our hero.

Charles,
I'm so sorry Rock's journey came to an end today. I know when the pain is so fresh it doesn't seem like it will ever be better, but it will. You shared 13 beautiful years with your boy and in time those memories will bring smiles. But for now Tripawd nation shares your grief and your tears. Rock will always be a part of our family here and his story will continue to inspire.
