Hooray, Rock! Glad to hear he's doing so well.

Keep kicking butt, Rock.

Jackie, Angel Abby's mom

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!

I'm so sorry to read this.  Rock, you were doing so well!  I'm sorry you had some problems and that cancer has reared its very ugly, very unfair head.  It's just terrible.  You are SO dearly loved and cared for.  Your daddy loves you TONS!  We'll be thinking of you and wishing you some peaceful days ahead.  I know they'll be filled with love and company, so that's got to make ANY pup feel special.  Rest easy, buddy.  You're in great care - I mean, check out the escort for your fresh air time.  That's pretty sweet.

ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12.  Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ!  No side effects.  We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments.  He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors!  Our love. Our funny little guy!

I'm so sorry, Charles. I have followed along with what Rock's story and was so impressed by your love for each other. He's so beautiful. All we can do is have faith that Rock will let you know when he's too tired to go on. As long as you honor that, you continue to show how much you love him. Please keep us posted on how he's doing.

Oh no! My heart breaks for you, I'm so very sorry.

You are a pawesome, loving and responsible pawrent. Rock knows how much he means to you, he knows he is loved. What a lucky dawg to have had such a great life with you.

Treasure every moment you have left, and reassure him that it's OK for him to move on, that you will be sad but you will honor his spirit and live a good life now that he's really shown you how to live. Oftentimes dogs have a hard time showing that they're in pain, they don't want to let their people down, and it makes end of life decisions so hard. Although it's never easy to say goodbye, there are signs dogs give. This Penny Jars News Blog post can help you watch for them, so that Rock doesn't leave this world in any kind of pain or stress. This End of Life Care Tips is another good one that will be a big help to you right now.

My heart goes out to you. Give Rock a big, big loving hug from us and tell him that he will forever be a hero to all of us here, now and always.

If you want to talk or just vent, we are here for you.

I am so sorry to read about rock. I remember watching his videos right before my babies amputation and thinking what an inspiration he is. My thoughts and prayers and hugs are with you.

Oh, I'm so sorry to read this. Your love for him shows in the picture and in your words.

Even with all this, he is still a lucky dog to know the love you give him.

Hang in there.

I am so sorry to read this. My heart just breaks for you.  Cancer is so unfair.

Magnum had the mets go to the hip bone of her one remaining back leg and her lungs.  We became her back legs for the last 2 weeks until it became difficult to manage her pain.  It was still hard a really hard decision because her appetite was strong and she was alert, doing what she did best - guarding.  But she was very tired.  I think the clincher was to see how relieved she was to arrive at the hospital as if she knew they could get rid of her pain (that, and being told that if we took her home again she was at risk of fracturing her hip).

Jerry's suggestions above are good for helping you make that decision because while some people say their dog gives them "the look" others (me included) didn't find it that clear cut.

Many hugs to you.

Karen

Magnum: 30th May 2002 to 5th May 2012. Lost her back left leg to osteosarcoma on 5th Sep 2011. Lung mets found on 20th Mar 2012 but it was bone mets in the hip that ended her brave battle. Magnum's motto - "Dream as if you'll live for ever, live as if you'll die today" (James Dean). Loyal, loving, courageous and spirited to the end. My beloved heart dog, see her memoirs from Rainbow Bridge ...... http://princess.....pawds.com/

I am so very sorry that you are all having to deal with this. Rock is our hero, and he is so fortunate to have such wonderful parents. Thinking of you and wishing you many beautiful times together. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Joan and Lily

Our beautiful Lily was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her front leg on 12/14/11 at age 8 and had amp on 12/16/11. She completed 5 rounds of carbo. She was so brave and kicked cancer's butt daily! She lived life fully for 4 years, 3 months, and 15 days after her amp. My angel is a warrior princess. I miss her so much.
