Hi guys,

I need some ideas on how to make a shirt for Doris. She's a snall beagle at just over 20 lbs. She had her front right leg amputated on Monday. The vet sent us home with a white fabric sleeve that they had cut aan arm hole in to make a "shirt". She's having some fluid drainage which they said looks normal from the photos I sent. So I'm quickly running out of the fabric sleeve they gave us and need to either buy more or need to make my own shirts. Anyone have any ideas on how I would go about making a shirt for her from an old tshirt? I'm thinking measure it out, cut a piece, cut an arm hole, and cut little pieces on the back to tie it with. Any suggestions would be super helpful! Or if you know where I could buy more of the sleeve, that would be helpful too. Thanks in advance!!

Aww she is so cute!

Lots of people go the DIY route. A human compression shirt can do the trick, but so can something as simple as a pair of ladies panty hose. Also keep in mind that not all dogs even wear compression sleeves. She may not need one if you don't mind cleaning up a bit of fluid (you can just put extra towels on the places she sleeps).

If you want to give it a go, here are some ideas. Let us know what works:

Thank you for the suggestions! She has tried to scratch her incision 3 times today so she definitely needs something to protect it. We are going to pick up some more of the fabric sleeve, that I described above, tomorrow from our vet.

My fiancé got some more fabric from our vet today. Unfortunately its only enough for 2 shirts. So I think we'll need to figure something else out. I'm hoping we can buy some somewhere.

Any stretchy old leggings will probably work too. Can't wait to see what you come up with.

I cut up a length of pajamas pants and cut a leg hole in it. Works surprisingly well! I need to adjust the location of the leg hole next time just so the seam isn't near her incision.  I was a little off on my measurements this first time but its doing the job just fine.
