Greetings,

Just a question to the 2 and 3-legged friends out there whom have gone thru or going thru chemo, what was your suggested frequency for doing mets detection (i.e. using x-ray and ultrasound) during chemo treatments? Our onco has suggested doing several 3-view chest X-rays and abdo ultrasound after each 2 chemo treatments (Tahoe is on lomustine) to check for mets. We are hopefully doing round #2 tomorrow, which would have use doing mets detection soon after.

Just wondering what recommended/actual frequencies others have been using? We last did full imaging March 12, 6 days before amp.

Thanks,

Stirling and Tahoe

Hi Stirling & Tahoe!

Jill's onco recommended doing Lung X-ray half way through IV chemo (she had four rounds of chemo, so she had her lung X-ray at her third chemo appointment).

She will have another lung X-ray at the one month post chemo mark.

Hope that helps!  Hope Tahoe is doing well!!

Erica & Jill

Jill is a 9-year-old tuxedo kitty. She was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in June 2012 on her toe in her right hind leg. Her leg was amputated on 12/12/12 and she completed four rounds of chemo (2 of Carbo, 2 of Doxy) in April 2013. We did xrays 1/2 way through then at the last one.  That was when our mets were detected so Sassy couldn't finish her treatments of Carboplatin.  I want to stress though just because Sassy got them does not mean that every dog will.  I usually don't even mention it because its hard enough when dealing with Cancer to know what happened to someone else.

I hope Tahoe is doing well & continues to do so.  Keep kicking butt Tahoe.

Hi Stirling and Tahoe,

Wookie had chest radiographs taken a few days before every chemo treatment (which was every 3 weeks). An echocardiogram was done before his first treatment (because doxorubicin was one of his chemo drugs). He also had an abdominal ultrasound before his first chemo and then I think after his 2nd or 3rd chemo (when I felt an abdominal mass).

Best wishes to you and Tahoe!

Right hind limb amputated 7/3/12 for OSA, started on alternating cycles of Carboplatin and Doxorubicin and oral Palladia. Single lung met 9/1. Met in the neck muscle removed 9/30. Large mass in sublumbar lymph node 10/2. Rescue chemo with ifosfamide 10/6. Mets to the rib and axillary lymph node 10/21. Started Leukeran and Pred 10/25. Wookie left this Earth for a far better place on 12/4/12. I miss you, Boo, you were my heart.

Hi Mr. Tahoe and Stirling!

F I recall correctly (and this is with carboplatin for osteo):
three view before the surgery
This is where I'm fuzzy.....don't 'think' she had any xtays before first chemo (which was three weeks after surgery)
Then three view before second chemo (again three weeks later)....I was kinda thing king about not doing them because she was doing g so well I didn't want to "spoil the party". She Sid she could just do one view if I wanted but she kinda' hinted to go forward. I did and wheeeeeeew. It was all good!
No stays before this third round d just yesterday..........no more in between blood work needed either before fourth round.
Said it was my choice to do them when fourth round roles around
Has not had any ultra so D's nor has she suggested any......not sure why.....she is VERY aware of my financial situation (or lack thereof):-)

The very best ALWAYS to you and the Mighty Tahoe! Sally and Happy Hannah

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
