Morgana became a Tripawd on March 26th. She did a cycle of 4 Carbo Chemotherapy in Zurich, and then additionally 2 in Novara (Italy). Since July we have started an additional therapy with Onsior and Thalidomide.
In September we did a new control CT scan, and two very small lesions (1 of 1mm, the other of 1,3mm) were visible in her lungs. We continued with the therapy and did a new CT scan last Friday, after exactly 2 months. One of the lesions is not visible anymore, but the second one has grown to 2 cm. The vet still said that it was a slow growth... over a two months period.
She is now suggesting to do a second chemotherapy cycle with carbo. After two doses we would do another CT scan to see effects. Considering she never had any side-effects during the first cycle, probably it's wise to try this out.
The other option would be to move directly to Metronomic therapy.
Am wondering what options you have had, and especially try to get a feeling about the growth of this metastasis. Morgana is 5 years old, so far has not displayed any sign of issues and wants to eat and play as usual:-)
Oh you beautiful Morgana! It's so nice to see your face. We've missed you!
@sirjoe I'm sorry you guys are facing metastasis. Stupid cancer. You can see that Morgana doesn't care what the scans said, she is doing GREAT and loving life as always. She is such a great example for all of us! Follow her lead as best you can, it's the only way to get through the situation.
So, when we were facing mets with Jerry, his mets were much larger. And since we didn't do chemo with him at the time of diagnosis, we had no idea if he could handle IV chemo, so we went with metronomics . That did help for a time, nearly 8 months. I often wonder if we had done IV chemo if things would have played out differently.
Morgana has a pretty optimal situation if those ugly mets have to happen. 1, she tolerated chemo really well, and 2, you caught the mets early. So heck, why not do the next round of chemo if it's not a burden on either of you? I have a sister in law with stage 4 breast cancer metastasis and she has successfully kept the mets under control for over 5 years, by following a strategy like what your vet is recommending. It's not a matter of getting rid of the cancer for her, unfortunately, but keeping it under control and so far so good. I hope with all my heart that Morgana has the same good fortune!
Meanwhile you can check out our Tripawds Discussion Forum topic about coping with metastasis for some ideas.
Let us know what you decide to pursue OK? We are always interested in learning from members, especially in other countries. Give her extra smooches from us!
