We are at day 17 post amp and Max really hasn't moved much since I brought him back from our regular vet for a shot of medication for vomiting yesterday. He has been getting around just fine until now.
They think he has developed ulcers because there is blood in his vomit. They prescribed Carafate and Prilosec for the suspected ulcers but to settle his tummy his primary vet wanted to give the shot. Can't remember what it is called and lost my receipt unfortunately. I think it was called Cerra something?????
He has barely gotten up since then but is eating well and drinking. Tonight when he finally did get up he seemed to be limping on his right hind leg. I wonder if his hind legs are worn out from hopping around or if it could be something new.
What a rollercoaster ride this is...just when you think you've made it over the most difficult hurdle a new one pops up!
It is extremely hard for me to stay pawsitive for him and myself when I keep running into brick walls:(
A roller coaster indeed. I wonder if hs lethargy is a side-effect from the shot. Consider asking Dr. Wiltzius in the Ask A Vet forum. Best wishes to you and max.

Thank you for the well wishes! I googled Cerenia. One of the side affects is lethargy but he was given the shot 48 hours ago. We were up most of last night with him in pain so we are taking him in for xrays this afternoon. He shifted positions back and forth all night and never got up. He kind of crawls backward and forward too...it is very strange and disappointing to be back in this position so soon.
Will post an update after our doc appt.
Hope the x-rays turn out ok, and they are able to take the pain away. Some of them have more little setbacks than others. Don't let this get the better of you.

Back from the vet. Max's chest xrays came back with more mets so I guess that explains the lethargy. There was no indication of anything wrong with his hind legs.
We are making things as comfortable for him as possible. He is on Tramadol and is resting very comfortably for now.
Feeling helpless and defeated again, but lovin' my boy:)
I'm so sorry about the mets. Don't loose sight of making the most of each day. No time yet for feeling defeated. Sending good thoughts to you and Max.

Defeated? Now, Max wouldn't want that! FYI: Jerry lived a happy, hoppy life for another eight months after we discovered his lung mets. We attribute much of this to his metronomic canine cancer therapy. That, and his amazing outlook on life to never give up.
PS: Thank you for your generous support!

I second what Shanna & Trouble and Admin say. And keep in mind that the lethargy can be from a LOT of things. Remember, Max just had some really major surgery too. Setbacks are common, and oftentimes last just a couple of days. Have you tried any doggie massage or heat packs? That can really help him feel better.
We know how hard it is to stay pawsitive, but if you follow Max's lead, we guarantee that the days ahead will be more fulfilling and beautiful for all of you. After all, with our without cancer, today is all we really have.
Many, many hugs to you both. Hang in there, and keep us posted OK?

I appreciate the advise and am going to look into doggie massage and heat packs...anything to make him more comfortable and peacful is my main goal!! After all, he has brought me nothing but peace, love and happiness for the last 8 years, its the least I could do and he's such a wonderful dog that deserves the best!
Our oncologist says that the characteristics of Max's cancer have stumped them. Apparently it doesn't usually spread THIS quickly.
Any further suggestions or advise would be grately appreciated from our Tripawd friends!
