Hi everyone!

I havent posted about Max for awhile, so thought I would give an update. We went for chemo treatment #2 today.

Max 's oncologist was very encouraged by his progress. His blood count (which we take once a week because of his thrombocytopenia) was on the low side of normal, he did not show signs of pain when examined and has gained 11 pounds in 3 weeks!!! All very good news….as well as nothing additional popping up. I think we are finally on the upswing. He is pretty much his normal self except for tiring a bit sooner than he used to. We play in the snow and he chases his stick…..even barked and went to my boots last night to try and get me to go out. Sorry, buddy…but Mom doesnt have a fur coat like you and it was only 12 degrees!! The only thing we have to keep an eye on is his weight. Since he is still on prednisone he is constantly hungry and being a Lab wants to eat everything he can get his mouth on! I heard a strange noise last night and went to the laundry room..thought I had closed the door but must not have gotten it closed tightly……he had his head in the food bag munching away!! LOL…I wish I would have had a camera. It was hilarious. His weight is good now..he was so thin before, so now its just keeping it that way.

He is wearing his Ruff Wear Web Harness whenever we go someplace…I highly recommend that. Its so helpful when you are around other dogs or need a little more control and Max does not pull when he has it on. Its also has a handle to help steady him and to assist in getting in and out of the car. It seems to be comfortable for him and he gets excited when I get it out. Money well spent.

Hopefully these next few days will go well after the chemo treatment. He did get a little sick last time so Ill be expecting that and have the meds for it. I hope Im not jinxing us…but Im really excited about his progress and feel like FINALLY we are moving forward instead of back. Im just enjoying each day as it is, knowing full well it wont last, but its so wonderful seeing my boy this way again. Cool

Labby hugs to everyone!

yEA Max!  That is a great update.  I'm so glad he's doing so well.  I can't believe he helped himself to the foodbag.  Too funny!

Paula,

So glad to hear things are going so well- they just never cease to amaze us. I laughed out loud when I read the part about Max in the food bag- I can just picture it. That had to be hilarious.

We too LOVE the Ruff Wear Harness - it really does help with many situations. I really love it for getting out of the car. I think Wrigley likes wearing it too-  She feels very important in it.

we've been down to the river twice now ( sorry, it's  almost 70 degrees here in Carmichael, CA )  and as helpful as it is for her, it is also very reassuring for me having it on knowing I have something to hold if I need to. Although she is doing very well on her own.  (Unfortunately) The water is very low now so it is pretty easy for her to swim.

Thanks for the wonderful news about your progress-keep it up.

Congrats Max! We have been keeping up with your story because my mom said that Max looks just like my annoying little brother Hoyt, my mom and dad almost named him Max, and my sister Gracie! I'm the only yellow lab in the group! I'm 8 and Hoyt just turned one yesterday! I had to miss seeing him on his birthday because Mom is afraid to let us get together because she thinks Hoyt will be so excited to see me and I might hurt myself (that's how little brothers always are!).

Anyways, Hoyt, Gracie and I send lots of wags and licks! We are so happy to see that you are doing better... also, high five for sneaking into the food bag! We (Hoyt and I, Gracie is the "good girl", she distracted the pawrents while we were bad!) did that one time and ate almost an entire 30 pound (brand new!) bag of dog food before our pawrents caught us! Boy were we full! We didn't move for the rest of the day!

Good luck, we are praying for you!

Tucker, Hoyt, Gracie and our Pawrents!

Thank you Tucker!

Im proud of you guys for getting into a little Labby mischief! My Mom about had a fit.......but I know she wasnt mad cuz she was laughing the whole timeRasberry! I have had a ruff time of it, but hopefully Im turning a corner now. Im a little sick from my chemo today but my Mom gave me some meds and Ive been sleeping all day. My doctor says its not supposed to make me sick so fast, but I seem to get sick the next day every time. Its not bad tho...just queasy and I drool alot. I guess Ive been different through this whole thing, I might as well stick with it!! Tell Hoyt to take it easy on you when he gets close. You will be sore for awhile, but will be back to your playing self real soon!!

Labby high five to the Tripawds!!!

Hey Max & Mom~

Just catching up with your post now. So sorry to hear about the bad tummy form the chemo. We can relate.. we've had that too & its no fun.. Starts right after the treatment with us just like you (even though out doc told us like yours it normally doesn't happen that quickly)

I hope you are feeling better now. You sure do look handsome laying there in the snow.

Hang in there buddy!!  We're in this together. Smile

Hey everyone!

It has snowed 8 inches here in the frozen tundra (northern IL) and actually, still coming down. Max and I have spent some quality time out on the golf course (our yard backs up to the 18th T) today throwing the ball and jumping in the snowdrifts! He LOVES the snow and this Tripawd thing has not slowed him down one bit.

We go for our next chemo treatment and lung xrays this next Thur. 2/26 and I am already nervous, but determined to stay positive.

We have been able to control his Thromocytopenia with meds and although he still has some painful days and only wants to lay in the snow, most days he is back to himself and a crazy Lab!!

Zak..Im glad to hear that someone else gets sick right away from the chemo too. Its always the next day for Max and then 3-4 days later he will have an off day. Other than that, its pretty non eventful.

Wrig..I hope you had fun in the snow today....we did our best to send some to you. Hope you enjoyed it!! LOL!

Hey Max

We also had lots of snow too in northern Indiana, My Mom is afraid I will fall, but I love to romp around in it. Too bad we don,t live a little closer since we are both Tripawd Labs!!

Good luck with your appointment this week. I am just a few weeks behind you. Maybe we can meet in the spring!

Hey Paris!

I would love to meet in the Spring! Id really like to meet some of my Tripawd friends (especially Labs!) in person. Thanks for the good thoughts. My Mom will be glad to get this appt out of the way, so we can play in the snow some more! I think I will miss the snow in the spring though....I use it as an ice pak when I have a painful day and I can do the "whole body" ice !

Tripawd high five to ya Paris!Laugh

Love,

Max
