Checking in just in time to see you have done a great job of monitoring Max's pain and making sure the Vets are giving him adequate pain relief.
Thanks for the update! I know you were breathing a sigh of relief to observe him not screaming and yelling.

You mentioned the ER gave him an injection yesterday..... do you know what it was? So yesterday the injection and then putting him on gabapentin seem to really help.
What is the dose, the frequency of the Gabapentin ?
You mentioned that he walked around some when pottying. First of all congratulations on getting him to potty!!! 👍
Just curious how much walking around he did? He really just needs to go to party and then come right back in. It's so very very easy for a new tripod, especially one just a couple of days out from surgery to tweak a muscle.
How is he doing today?

He is on Buprinex, and then Gabapentin every 8 hours.
He did not do a lot of walking. He walked, went potty, then came back in and in his crate. A neighbor’s dog got out and tried to jump him, but I grabbed Max just in time to get him away so I hope he’s okay from me picking him up quickly. He goes back to the vet today. He is hating the cage. He whines and whines because he’s not used to it. Breaks my heart! I don’t think he’s in any pain right now- just wants out of the cage so badly.
He is not drinking water, but eating ice. He won’t drink water with the cone on. He’s back to eating his own food. I’m going to talk to the vet today about it.
He’s also getting so worked up when I have to leave, but I have to leave sometimes to go help my grandparents or go to school. So i’m going to talk to the vet about that as well.
Glad the inflatable cone is working better for him. Back to earing and now drinking.......all good!!!
Maybe you could let him out of his crate yet still confined to a room he's used to being with you. I'm sure of he isnt ised to the cate it is stressful. Dogs crave normalcy while recovering. Of course though, you don't want him trying to roam around a lot either.
Let us know how the Vet visit goes. Give yourself a pat on the back, you were doing a great job!

He got an AMAZING report at the vet!! Stitches look great, and everything is healing nicely. He is now in a shirt/onesie so he doesn’t scratch at it.
He goes back next Thursday for another follow up appointment but I am going to call tomorrow to see if he can be out a little more since he isn’t liking the crate. He’s anxious being in it all the time.
You guys are amazing here!! Thank you for all the tips and help!
Oh wowwww! What a fantastic update. I've been away and am just catching up. So hoppy to know that you have his pain signals figured out and he is so much spunkier. A little more freedom would probably help him so much. I'm glad you are going to ask the vet first though. Keep us posted!
My last Pug boy could not be crated because of abuse and neglect in his original home. He also did not tolerate any kind of sedatives... the tiniest amount would wack him out for hours.
I discussed these issues with his surgeon before his knee surgeries. The surgeon allowed me to set up an exercise pen as a recovery area instead of a crate. His movements were still limited but he didn't get anxious like he did in a crate. We were also allowed to let him out of the pen as long as he was on a leash.
Maybe discuss with the vet to see if Max could use a pen instead of a crate so he wouldn't be so anxious.
You are right- Max needs rest at this point. He recovery sounds like it is going very well....good job!

It does seem loke Max is continuing to show progress...slowly but surely👍 Remember, during recovery every "little" bit of progress is HUGE progress!!
!uldn't worry about Max's cough, most likely some type of allergy thing going on during these summer months.
Give Max some extra treats for veing such a good boy.!!
