WHEW! Oh my gosh that HAD to be the source of his frustration. I'm thrilled they found it too! Kudos to you for being so observant and getting it checked out.
Luka, enjoy that tasty bone, you've more than earned it my friend.

What great news! That must have really been bothering him. He must be soooo much happier now!
Otis - 106 pound lab/Dane mix, lost his right front leg to osteosarcoma on Febuary 9, 2016. Four rounds of carboplatin completed in April, 2016. Lung mets August 25, 2016. Said goodbye too soon on September 4, 2016. Lost his adopted sister, Tess, suddenly on October 9, 2016. likely due to hemangiosarcoma.
Wherever they are, they are together.
WONDERFUL PICTURE AND WONDERFUL UPDATE!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂
We've seen stitches being left in before and they caused all sorts of issues until they discovered the problem.! Didn't even occur to me that this coukd be the problem! Poor Luka!! Aooooo glad he's all better now!!!
He deserves some ice cream and cake 🙂 🙂 🙂 and so do you! 🙂 🙂 🙂
Hugs!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Luka is still on gabapentin, and I am worried that he is either addicted or that it is not working that well, because he gets up really early--3:00-4:30 on many days panting and pacing. I am thinking about phasing him out of the gaba but if it's pain rather than withdrawal, I should probably shorten the intervals between dosages, which per prescription is OK to do. The amp was January 17. Does anyone have a suggestion about this?
Thanks.
Lisa
Which Redwoods??? That clearly looks like the North Coast. Are you in Humboldt county? Tripawds HQ is currently parked in Eureka, CA.

GRRRRRREAT VIDEO! 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 Delightful to see him so happy!! The picture of Luka in front of that magnificent Redwood is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! 🙂
Check with the Vet abput tweaking the Gaba. It does sound like he needs a more frequent dose of "something" and maybe Tramadol would be a better solution. Ask the Vet about "withdrawal", but it does sound like he is having pain. And yeah, you want to withdraw the Gaba gradually per a Vet's instructions since he's been on it since January.
Is it possible Luka is overdoing it and is having muscle spasms, or neck or back issues? If it's happening more at night the soreness and stiffness would show up more after he had been laying in one position.
Try massaging him head to toe and see if he showns any tension in any certain areas.
Let us know how it's going! Do you think the UTI could be causing the distress?
And we always love seeing pictures of Luka!!! Hint! 🙂
So interesting that you were so close to Tripawd HQ!!!

Oooooohh fun beach days! That is such a pretty part of Oregon.
As for the Gabapentin, talk to your vet about adjusting the dose. Some dogs are on it for longer periods of time and that's OK, it doesn't mean they are addicted. Nerve damage from amputation surgery can last a while depending on how pain management was handled before and after surgery. Gaba helps ease the pain from it. Dosages often need to be adjusted as the dog heals, and you never want to stop giving it suddenly.
If he's panting it sounds like he is in some type of pain and could use an adjusted dose as well an evaluation from a certified canine rehab specialist. Have you considered taking him to one? We highly encourage it and Tripawds Foundation will even pay for his first rehab therapy visit!

So glad to hear Luka is doing better. That suture was probably driving him crazy 😜.

Stitches out and 1st round of Chemo on 1/19/17. 2nd round of Carboplatin on 2/10/17 - 3rd round on 3/2/2017. 4th round was scheduled for 3/22/17 - however due to low WBC postponed - 4th Chemo completed on 3/28/17.
