It's been quite a week or so... After panicking because Lexie's radiation/tumor site was smelling awful and causing her a lot of discomfort and pain, we had a great meeting with our onco vet today. I think she was trying to amputate herself(!).

He agreed that amputation was the right thing to do for her and for me, although he wanted me to know that mets still are likely to be an issue down the road. I told him I'll roll the dice to see her happy and pain-free, and free of cancer in that leg.

I'll drop her off Weds. morning and surgery will happen a bit later, and she should be ready to come home Thurs. (I'll post more about how wonderful Dr. McNeill is in the referrals section).

I'm going in to this feeling very prepared due to all of you who have posted on other threads, or have responded to mine. The support and knowledge in this community is just unbelievable. Thanks just isn't enough.

At any rate. I'll check in and update post op tomorrow. Thanks again!

Deb and Lexie

P.S.. My most recent post with Lexie's story and some related Qs is here --> http://tripawds.....e-matters/.

Hope Lexie sails through her operation and the next few weeks.

Having gone through similar 5wks ago with Lloyd and seeing how well he's feeling and coping now - you'll be amazed and astounded how well she does, even though you think you know reading other peoples threads- their tenacity makes you gooh-mycrying

Wow what a week indeed, I'm so sorry! It's comforting to have such a great doc on your side, what a difference that makes in coping with the situation. You've take a scary but courageous step here, you and Lexie are a good team, you'll get through this beautifully.

Good luck today, will be thinking of you both. Keep us posted.

Amy & Spirit Libby

Liberty (Libby) was diagnosed with OSA on 1-22-13.  Right front amputation on 1-31-13. No IV Chemo. Metronomic Therapy started 2-19-13 along with supplements and some home cooking. Lungs clear until 1-06-14.  She's still her happy, hoppy, bossy self.  Living the dog life to the fullest and a proud Winter Warrior. :) RIP my Libby 4-21-03 to 3-19-14

I can remember TJs amp like it was yesterday (well, June of 2013).

Lots of love and pain meds is what they need.

Good luck and I hope everything goes well.

That's so strange...I thought I had updated earlier today but it looks like it didn't go through. Lexie's surgery went really well, the vet said, although he was concerned about an enlarged lymph node. She is staying overnight tonight.

On the good news front, the vet tech said she went outside for her first official potty walk as a tripawd. I can't wait to see her and bring her home, hopefully tomorrow.

Thanks to all!
