Hi All,

Well, Kona's been doing really well. Getting stronger and more herself. Part of that, of course, means that she's becoming MORE HERSELF....

Kona is a devil dog! Sneaky clever, steals from her adopted pup siblings...playing tug and winning against mega strong Cotton (he's 55lbs three yrs old nothing but muscle dog....ok, he's also albino, deaf and blind in one eye from birth....we call him 'K2" because he's just like Kona....he idolizes her.

A week ago, we had the blood retest on Kona's blood count. I know that the chemo is supposed to lower their white blood counts, but that still makes me kind of nervous...her's is 1000, and apparantly 10,000 is the normal...Good news though, her red blood count is now totally normal!!! Hmmm, perhaps the twice a day, flash cooked just for her small amounts of lean beef.............of course she's spoiled!

Anyway, tomorrow, Friday is her second chemo.

I'm nervous, but I really  feel that she's so much stronger than she was on the first treatment and that she'll do really well.

Hold the good thoughts for us.

I will keep you all posted.

                                thanks,

                              Denise

Kona turned 9yrs on April 16, 2010.
Kona was diagnosed Memorial Weekend 2010 with osteosarcoma.
Right rear leg amputated on June 4th. First chemo June 18th 2010
Second chemo July 9th, 2010      Third and final (yea !!!) chemo July 30th, 2010

That's great that Kona is doing so well! She's pretty darn lucky to get that lean beef too! Good luck on your 2nd chemo treatment (btw is it Carboplatin?). When Mackenzie was on carboplatin the first few days were a little tough but once you get through that, everything goes back to normal pretty much.  Don't know if Kona is taking any anti-nausea meds when she does her chemo.  FYI - several of our tripawds here had to be on anti-nausea meds for the first several days and even had injections prior to the treatment as a preventative.

It's amazing as every week goes by how much stronger they get and I'm sure Kona will do really well and be really strong before you know it.  Good luck with everything!smile

Kami (Mackenzie's Mom)

My sweet golden Mackenzie.  She became my angel on Dec 29, 2010 at the age of 8 1/2  although she was always my angel from the time we brought her home.  She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in Sept 2009 and officially became a tripawd (front leg) on Nov 5, 2009.  She will be forever in my heart and now she's running free with all of our other tripawd heroes.  I love you Mackenzie!

Hi Kami,

Thanks 🙂

I'm thinking that they're going to use the same IV of Platinol.

Luckily, she didn't have any nausea last time (I hope it's the same this time too!).  I realized that she didn't when I was driving her home....

I had stopped at the bank drive thru on my way there and had asked/received three crunchy bones for our three pups......well, Kona caught the scent of these, and dug her claws into my shoulder (yes, she's very subtle....not!) early in the short drive home....she ate all three before we drove the 5miles home....

Last time she did have some diarhea...she'd have normal poops, but them 'leakage and poop spotting inbetween...

She's so much stronger overall now, that I have big hopes that she'll do well with tomorrow's treatment.

Sounds like Kona is doing well.  Hope chemo #2 is as uneventful as chemo #1.

Way to go Kona!!  I love devil dogs because they know how to enjoy life to its maximum! !!  little-devil  Tomorrow is a big day for you and your pawrents.  I am sending you huge positive thoughts so that your chemo #2 is as smooth as the first one and that it will be very effective on the C cells  we all dislike so much.

Take care,

Denise.....we're holding Kona up in good pawsitive energy that all goes well with her chemo treatment!  Two of my goldens went through various chemo protocols and even with a few roadbumps in the way, they tolerated it well.  And for your Kona, we wish that as well.

By the way, I too have a Kona...........a rescued cream labbie girl who is the BOMB!!  Hasn't quite earned the *devil dog* moniker yet but then again, I've only had her since December.

My Kona says......"Go kick some cancer butt!"

Hi everyone,

Ahhh, I could feel all the positive thoughts coming our way!

Thank You !!!

Kona did GREAT today!

I'm so happy, relieved, can breathe, etc, ........you know......................whew

They even said that her white count has come up !!!!

YIPPPEEEE!!!!!!

We reminded them again this morning that since we'd only given Kona 1/2 of a sedative (instead of the 2 tabs that they had originally prescribed......which got her too loaded the first time) anyway, we told them that since she'd only had the 1/2 tab to take the stress edge off (she gets stressed) , she was super alert and WOULD be on the constant lookout for a getaway............

As you may rememeber:

                          1. The morning after her amputation, she took the momentary opportunity to fly over, uhuh, over the tech's legs that were blocking her raised kennel, flying to the floor, not falling and making a run for it...........however, she was still attached to an IV and it acted like a leash...........yikes..........

                         2. First chemo visit, she was drugged out, so they let their guard down a tad, cause she looked soooo sweet, and zipppp!!!

She took off down a hallway!!!!

      Yes, our clever clever girl......

This time, no escape attempts....................they're on to her !

Apparently, her reputation for getaway attempts is well known now.

Just blows us away that they think that she's so sweet.............plotting cattledog little-devil A.K.A. Devil Dog !!!

Anyway, I'm so happy to report that since picking her up at 2:30pm, she's been doing just GREAT !!!

               Thanks  Friends,

                Denise

Yay, Kona!  We're so glad you're doing so well.  We hope that all goes well with this chemo treatment, too...  it seemed to take Holly a few days before getting nauseous.  We'll keep fingers and paws crossed that you sail through this one!  We love your spunk!

Hugs,

Holly, Zuzu and Susan

Holly joined the world of tripawds on 12/29/2009. She has a big little sister, Zuzu, who idolizes Holly and tries to make all of her toys into tripawds in Holly's honor. And she's enjoying life one hop at a time!

Yes, Kona is certainly fearless!

Today was incredible!

She was roaming around her backyard with her brother and sister (adopted special needs...albino,deaf and blind in one eye ...both of them).

Kona was patrolling her yard as well as digging in her den...... It's just beyond words to have Kona 'Back again' , you know, to her ol self, that's just priceless.

I took some pictures today, now I've just got to figure out how to upload them here..........

Start a Tripawds Blog for the easiest way to upload photos here. Otherwise they must be hosted online somewhere like flickr or photobucket. If you do share photos online somewhere, copy the image file location and paste it in the Image URL field when using the insert image button in the forum post editor.

Hope this helps.
