Jilly Bean had her 2 month on Leukeran blood work up yesterday.
First, a few updates.....she hasnt been feeling that great lately. She just seems a little "blah" and has also been having some diarrhea and vomiting. Her oncologist said to give her 1/4 of a pepcid every night and we'll see if this helps. That was about a week ago, and so far it has. No more GI issues so far (knock on wood). Shes still a bit lethargic though. I missed a pill last week (I know I know, bad mom)...and I didn't think this could happen after missing just one dose, but she was like a new cat the next day - acting like a kitten, running around. So. I have been thinking a little that maybe we should stop the Leukeran. The stomach issues seem to be ok, but I dont want her feeling miserable. I figured I'd see what the blood work showed.
I had them weigh her yesterday when they did the blood work and she has lost 10 ounces since her last appointment (4 weeks ago). I had a feeling she had lost some, but I was a little surprised it was that much, shes eating completely normally.
OK, so blood work. Her neutrophils are normal (on the low end of normal, but as we know, thats normal for her). WBC's are low, but not low enough that we need to stop the leukeran or be concerned. Her lymphocytes are EXTREMELY low, but as I've come to learn, this does not mean much. Oftentimes this is just caused by stressed and her oncologist also told me that the lymphocytes are the WBC's that are most effected by Leukeran, but there is really no cause for concern, because she is not showing any symptoms of any problems that would pop up by having low lymphocytes.
So, all in all, the blood work is good. Oncologist is not too concerned about the weight loss as she says these scales are so finicky and shes eating. If she weren't eating, of course we'd be concerned. Since we're checking her so often (once a month), we're keeping a good eye on her.
So the decision is, we're going to basically play it week by week for now. She is acting much more playful tonight, which makes me happy. She is nowhere near miserable enough that I'm ready to stop the drugs. So day by day it is.........................and we'll have another check up in a month

Jill is a 9-year-old tuxedo kitty. She was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in June 2012 on her toe in her right hind leg. Her leg was amputated on 12/12/12 and she completed four rounds of chemo (2 of Carbo, 2 of Doxy) in April 2013. "Like" Jill's facebook page: https://www.fac.....tty?ref=hl Proud member of the WINTER WARRIORS!!!! Her blog can be read at http://jillsjou.....ipawds.com. xoxo
Is that a current photo? She's got whiskers! She actually looks very, very pretty in that poto--elegant and very serene.
I sensed there was a little something "off" over there. I'm glad the pepcid made her feel better. Can't stand the thought of sweet Jilly feeling badly. Nope, don't like that!
Have you checked in with Dr. Xie or Dr. Loops...or any other holistic vet, about treatng Jill holistically--either with or without Luekeran? Heck, Jill might as well be a pioneer in that category too!
Was there any discussin about dong the Luekeran on an every other day basis?
Sounds like day by day is a good way to go for now. You are certanly diligent and know every aspect off Jill's personality, habits and actions. You will know if you need to drop off the Luekeran
Pepper, we'vw got yours and Jill's back over here! No worries!
Salt and Hapoy Hannah
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
I'm sorry Jill isn't feeling 100% herself, hopefully she gets herself back soon Chin up and keep fighting the good fight!
<3 Heather & Barret
Barret was diagnosed with Hemangiopericytoma May 16, 2013. Front left leg/scapula/pectoral muscle was amputated on June 11, 2013 and we've never looked back. Follow our story on http://barret.t.....pawds.com/ and read my column on That Pet Blog
Oh Erica this is fabulous news! I was worried the weight loss was going to be something that made the doc want to stop the leukeran, but this is a pretty good report after all
Day by day, week by week....it's just one of those things we learn to do when cancer enters our life, isn't it?
Yay Jill!

Jilly Bean is looking awesome! The report sounds pretty good - Go Jilly! As for not being quite 100%, I am sure she will start to feel better soon. Is it possible the meds make her tired? We never did metronomics , so I'm not up on the long term effects.
Shanna & Spirit Trouble ~ Trouble gained her wings 3/16/2011, a 27 1/2 month cancer survivor, tail wagging. RIP sweetheart, you are my heart and soul. Run free at Rainbow Bridge.

Liberty (Libby) was diagnosed with OSA on 1-22-13. Right front amputation on 1-31-13. No IV Chemo. Metronomic Therapy started 2-19-13 along with supplements and some home cooking. Lungs clear until 1-06-14. She's still her happy, hoppy, bossy self. Living the dog life to the fullest and a proud Winter Warrior. :) RIP my Libby 4-21-03 to 3-19-14
Jill you are looking beautiful as always. I'm sorry the chemo is not agreeing with you, but sounds like everything is going well besides that. Shooter is a Pepcid addict plus it comes in handy if your Mom has heartburn in the middle of the night, she can raid your supply (voice of experience)!!
