Today, I was home in bed with the flu... and my hubby decided to take Jake in to work with him today (no patients, since the boss was out of town for a conference). I was a bit worried... but then fell asleep. They got home in the early afternoon, and my hubby said that Jake had a great time. One of his coworkers also brought in their little Maltese (Phoebe) and Jake and her got along great! Jake has a girlfriend!!! Laugh

I was so happy to hear that he had such a great time! But I was mad at my hubby, that he didn't take any pictures of Jake's outing!!! Well, his boss is still going to be out on Monday, so I hope that hubby can take Jake in again... and this time take some freaken pictures so I can post them on Jake's blog!! Laugh

So, all of this week, Jake seemed to be pretty slow and tired all the time. If he walks from one end of the house to another, he just plops down and sleeps, like he's run a marathon! It's been 36 days since his amputation... and he's 10 years old... so I'm not sure if that's normal...

Tomorrow, I'm taking Jake swimming... and I know he's gonna love that!! Big Blink I also noticed this past week, that Jake's back legs seem to be shaking alot... some days more than others... He also wakes me up in the middle of the nite with his panting... Everything seems to worry me about him... But other than that, he seems to be happy, has a great appetite... So I should be thankful!

Jake lost his battle on 11/9/2009, almost 8 weeks after his surgery. We will never forget our sweet golden angel… http://jakesjou.....ipawds.com ….. CANCER SUCKS!

I hope Jake has fun at the office on Monday with your husband.  Maybe his girlfriend will be there.

Sounds like Jake had a great day in many ways. Just 36 days post amputation and already he is ready to hit the town and break hearts.

Cherry turned eleven the day before her amputation which for a Standard Poodle is rather senior.  Her energy level is much like the rest of the roller coaster - some days up and some days down.  I have also noticed that this rise and fall come with the weather.  The activity level is definately down on hot days, even though she only goes out for toilet on these hot days.  By contrast, she is definately full of it when the weather cools.  Also, I would expect that the shaking of the leg is more a sign of overdoing it.  I remember being off my feet for a few weeks during my younger days, and it took a very long time for the musle tone to return.  The swimming should help.

Be thinking of you,

Jake and Phoebe, sitting in a tree!!!!  OOOOO!!!!!  You should find some way to embarrass him in front of his new girlfriend - maybe show her some naked puppy pictures (well, as puppy as he was when you adopted him)???  Glad to hear he had an eventful day, so keep up the good work!

Glad to hear that Jake had such a good day!  That is so sweet that he has a girlfriend:)  I just got a camcorder the other day so that I can make a video diary of Maddie.  Definitely tell the hubby to get pics next time he takes Jake in the office, would love to see them!

Go Jake, such a lady's man . . .  I guess with all that flirting, he's worn himself out.

It's so hard not to worry when anything seems wrong, but it's good to hear he is happy and getting all the rest he needs.

Looking forward to seeing pictures Wink.

Best,

Stacy

Great Picts and Videos!!  Extremely beautiful family and I can see why Jake has the little girls heart going.  Always thought that swimming was a very good exercise for them (and us) this just helps to demonstrate.  For the record, Standard Poodles were orginally bred for retrieving and they have webing between their toes.  It was a hoot when my two white Standard Poodles (liter mates) used to swim.  After first getting permission, Cassandra (Sandy) would jump full body into the poole like those dogs competing for longest jump, while Cassiopeia (Cassy) would swim all day without getting her top knot wet.  She would only enter via the steps.

This is truly a case of getting back to quality of life.  Well done!!!!
