Thank you for all of your posts.  I took Henri to the Vet today....he thought Henri looked pretty good overall.

He did say I could give him Benedryl and I bought a topical spray called GentaSpray so I started that today.

Hope he will feel better soon.  I will give the shampoo mentioned in this post a try...I think Henri would benefit from another bath.

I also had the Vet check out the lump in Henri's hind right leg....he said he could aspirate it or I could watch it...I decided not to have it aspirated.  At this point...if it is cancer, Henri is done...he can not live on two legs....so I will hope for the best.  I did ask if he thought it was in the bone and he said no....so I am going to monitor it.

On a different note...tonight is a somber night for me....I have to put my Holland Lop pet rabbit to sleep tomorrow.  : (
She is almost 6....and has not been eating or drinking the last couple of days and not moving around ....I talked to the Vet about her condition and he said it was best to ease her pain.  : (  I know in my heart it is the right thing to do but it is still painful.  It is never easy having to do this....and it just makes you so sad.  : (

Hugs....

Wendy & Henri

Many, many good thoughts to you Wendi.  I am sorry about the bunny, they are such great pets. This is a tough time with Henri, but hang in there, we are all hoping for the very best.

Poor Wendy!  You are just being put through the ringer!   I wish you were having better moments.  I'm so sorry about Holland the bunny. Of course, it's hard!  The loss of pets are not easy.

I know you are going to worry about the new lump on Henri's leg but like the vet said, it didn't feel like it was in the bone so try not to think about it too much.  Make yourself only watch it every week or so.  Don't get focused or you'll really get upset.

I'm a horrible worrier and will get obessed about that kind of stuff.  I just don't want you to.  Comet's has an ossifying epulis in her lower jaw that is benign and can only be removed by removing her lower jaw bone so I know how it feels to watch a growth.  It is causing her bottom jaw to look deformed and her bottom front teeth to become massively crooked.  So, I force myself not think about it.

Hang in there!

Comet's mom

She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.

FYI: Dr. Patty Khuly recently wrote about Six Pet Dermatology Drugs and Products YOU Should Know About in her Fully Vetted blog.

In the article, Dr. Khuly discusses the benefits of using Phytosphingosine-based products, like those in the The Douxo line by Sogeval Labs:

"... using it in a shampoo, pad, or other topical spot-on application may be helpful for pets that suffer scaling disorders of the skin. Bonus: PS also has antiinflammatory and antimicrobial properties."

[Image Can Not Be Found] Douxo - Chlorhexidine PS Shampoo DOGS & CATS (6.8 fl oz)

Chlorhexidine PS Shampoo is formulated with antiseptic foaming solution containing chlorhexidine and phytosphingosine salicyloyl (0.05%), lipacide c8g (2.5%) and chlorhexidine(3%). Chlorhexidine has strong antiseptic activity. Phytosphingosine salicyloyl is a modified pro-ceramide which possesses antiseborrheic properties to control cutaneous disorders associated with pyoderma. The lipo-amino-acid activity complements that of chlorhexidine. The Lipacide also acts as a moisturizing and restructuring agent by allowing a lipo-protein film to deposit on the skin. This long-lasting film resists rinsing, and thus protects the skin from irritations and loss of moisture. To be used in the management of superficial and severe skin conditions that are responsive to chlorhexidine.

[Image Can Not Be Found] Douxo Chlorhexidine PS Micro-emulsion Spray for DOGS & CATS (6.8 fl. oz)

DOUXO Chlorhexidine PS Micro-emulsion Spray is used in the management of superficial and severe skin conditions that are responsive to chlorhexidine, following an initial treatment with DOUXO Chlorhexidine PS Shampoo.Directions: External use only. Brush your pet's hair against the natural fur line, then spray the product by holding the pump approximately 12 inches from the pet's body, thus dispensing the product over the targeted area. The product will dispense naturally. DO NOT over apply.Dosage: 1 spray per 10 lbs. The number of sprays can be doubled for long-haired dogs. The veterinarian's recommendations should be observed. It is generally recommended to apply twice a week.

Wendy,

I know this is way late but I'm truly sorry to hear about the loss of your pet rabbit. I've had critters of all kinds throughout my life and was saddened at the loss of each.

I pray Henry and you are doing well.
