Hello, I did the search function to try and see if there have been previous discussions on this topic and I could not find any.

Has anyone heard of this treatment for lung metastasis - Inhalational Interleukin-2?  Anyone actually used it for their dogs?  Experience?  Success?

Kokomo and I went to University of Florida in Gainesville last week to discuss his case and potentially get the vaccine based on "compassionate use".  As some of you may know, about a month ago, Kokomo now has a single visible lung met on chest x-ray.  In addition to the vaccine, they discussed all possible options with me and mentioned this which I had never heard of before.  It has actually been around for a while they said, and it is very effective in treating lung mets (only, not mets to other sites).  There are minimal side effects, and most dogs go into partial or complete remission and can live an additional up to 2 more years.  The only downside is this is very expensive.  The first 2 week course is between $2000-3000 USD.  They send us home with a hood/mask to put over the dog's nose, and they breathe in this treatment for 15 minutes 2x/day every day for 2 weeks.  We then go back for repeat CXR and if there is good response, do an additional 2 more weeks (for an additional $2000-3000 USD).

They do recommend getting a bone scan prior to this treatment to make sure there are no bone mets; otherwise, I may not want to invest that much money just to treat lung mets if he has other mets elsewhere.

Anyway, this is something I am seriously considering.  If anyone else has heard of or has personal experience with this, please chime in.  I was a bit shocked to hear about something that works so well for lung mets but I had not once come across it in chat groups/discussions here or on FB.  So I was wondering how many people even know about this???

Thank you!!

It's such a pile of poopicon_png that Kokomo now has to deal with a met!   Geez!   Rotten, rotten, rotten!

Clearly Kokomo knrw what he was doing though when he chose you as his human to travel this journey with him!   He is a WARRIOR and he saw the Warrior within yiu!!   Keep up the good fight Kokomo!

What I do have ro offer is what an absolutely strong and determw pup Kokomo is!!!  This dog has  the strength of steel!!

Will be watching your post to see if anyone has any experience with this.

Sending lots of hugs a d love

I do actually know about this.

When Manni's second tumor was first discovered in July and everyone still thought it was a lung met we discussed it. My oncologist actually advised against it due to it having the potential of burning or vitriolizing the trachea. He then recommended Palladia instead.

Now, I don't know how accurate this is so you might want to do a little more research on that stuff. If it really does make 'most' dogs go into remission than that would be perfect! Palladia only has something around a rate of 20% remissions.

However, I would also definitely go with an additional scan (CT scan) to really make sure it's actually in the lungs. That, of course, is purely my own bad experience, but if I hadn't pushed for a CT scan we would have gone on treating Manni's second osteosarcoma as lung mets...

let us know what you decide
