Hi all, my 9 year old rottie Pudge had his rear left leg amputated last week, 10/3, due to finding osteosarcoma in that leg. For the most part, his recovery has been going okay so far and he is adapting to life on 3 legs fairly well. However, I am very concerned about the healing of his incision. There is one area in particular towards the end near his butt that does not seem to be healing well. It has been scabbed over, peeling and looks like some skin might be dying off. I have alerted our vet and sent pictures, she thought it was possible carpet burn or irritation and recommended applying burn cream to help it heal. Also, it seems this is the area where Pudge is most sensitive. He doesn’t react much to any other section of his incision, but I can tell this spot really is bothering him (not sure if it’s pain, itchy, or a combo of both). Looking to see if anyone else had issues with their pet’s incision healing and any advice you all might have. Thank you in advance!
Hi Tori and Pudge, welcome! Your future posts won't need to wait for approval so post away.
Incision healing issues like this are pretty common. I'm glad you showed it to your vet first.
What signs is he giving you that it's bothering him? Is there any discharge or smell?
Can you share that photo here?
This is how adding images works in the Forums.
Basically you need to:
- upload a photo somewhere like your own Tripawds blog, or a public image hosting site like Imgur.com or Imgbb.com
- then copy the image URL (or just tap the image and copy it if you're on a mobile device)
- return here, and paste the image into your forum post.
Hope that makes sense. Let us know if you'd like help! I'll be back tomorrow to check out the pics.
