Shelby and I got her shipment in the mail today and while her vet gave us the OK to take them, I am still a bit nervous. I don't know why. I give her over the counter fish oil tablets and the iron pills (per her vet but human grade)... I guess adding another supplement to her diet just makes me anxious. I have read/heard great things about these things fighting hemangiosarcoma (Shelby's cancer) and the paperwork lists NO side effects or conflict w/Shelby's chemotherapy (and her onco did say it was fine and wrote us the discount prescription). I guess with all things related to my fur-baby ... I get nervous.

Especially with her GI tract being out of whack! We'll start tonight ... I was super excited to get these pills (checking our mail daily) and now that they are here, I get nervous. Maybe I'll start tomorrow since I"m going out tonight and want to be with Shelby should anything 'weird' happen but from what I can tell, they are just herbs and since they are safe for humans, they are safe for pooches!

Call me crazy -  I know I am! 🙂

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

I think it's really cool your onco approved use of the mushrooms. What do you mean by she wrote you a discount prescription?

When it comes down to it, you have to feel good about the supplements you're giving her. Remember, if you're not happy, she's not, so don't feel like you have to do this if it doesn't work out for some reason..

You can get a 5% discount if your vet signs off on some paperwork (and these are expensive bottles) so we did that. You know Dr. Turner, she's super mind/body/spirit as well as modern medicine so we're in good hands!

I know .... you are 100% right (as always).... in talking with the on-call onco today, I asked if Shelby was on too many pills and they said no, she's doing great and the iron pills, fish oil, mushrooms (and soon to be probiotics) is all great for fighting the cancer! So I feel better now.

But I'll keep this post updated as to how she does! They said the mushrooms could possibly give her a softer coat (so maybe her fur WILL grow back on her booty) and give her more energy (God help me - she's already got that terrier spirit)! 🙂

Hi Alison, I am so hoping Shelby does great on this mushroom supplement......This is something I so very much wanted to start Polly on, but just didn't start it quick enough. I hate that I hesitated for too long........

Hoping also that sweet little Shelby gets her tummy trouble straightened out.

Keeping you both in my thoughts,

Bonnie & Angel Polly

Thank you, that is really great information to know. Information about the discount is located here on the I'Munity website. I will update our Tripawds Nutrition Blog Post about I'Munity.

Bonnie please don't beat yourself up. There are soooooo many treatments and supplements and options at our disposal, nobody knows for sure which ones will work. You did the very best you could, all out of love, that's the best option in my book. {{{{hugs}}}}

Thank you Jerry, for the continuing support, and while I feel we did as much as we could for Polly, I will always second guess myself now......there are one or two things I would have done differently, thinking after her amp, I would have more time to decide on what route to take. I believe the second-guessing just comes with the territory, after losing your most beloved 3-legged companion. I really feel a special connection with Alison and Shelby, in that we both are/were fighting the same type cancer, and there is nothing I'd like to see more than Shelby kicking this cancer's butt. I truly wish that for ALL cancer-fighting pups and kitties here in this great support community, but this horrible hemangiosarcoma has taken my last 2 beloved Lab girls within 3 years of each other, so I have an extra special hatred for this cancer.

I will continue to keep everyone here in my heart, and prayers always.....

Ahhh.... Bonnie! I want to give you a big hug right now! :-) Thank you! And I'm with you - there is a part of me that wishes I had taken Shelby's leg off in June so just maybe they could have found her cancer then and we could have started treatment earlier but I am betting her spleen would have still gotten bloaty and all that ... I am trying so hard to come to peace with the "shoulda, woulda, coulda" and know that I have done everything right by Shelby with the information I had.

Thank you for your kind words about supporting us since we've got the same battle that you've had (twice - which is so awful on so many levels).

I still know that I second guess every decision I make now because it's quite a huge responsibility to be in charge of the health of someone that can't tell you if it hurts, if it makes them feel sick, etc. And Shelby is particularly hard to read since she will show other people pain or discomfort but for me - super brave, stoic girl! But we're not mind readers and we have to believe that our babies trust us and know in their hearts we are making all the right decisions for them. Shelby and I send you (and all the furbabies out there) lots of love!!! Mushrooms start tonight!

I too second guessed for a very long, long time. It just takes time to over come the wouldda/shouldda feelings, it's such a human thing. What I know now is that no matter how much money we have to spend, it's never enough, we love our animals so much.
