Meghan, I do hope that Bo's outcome is good. I have a pawsitive experience in this department.... well over a year ago Nova started "the cough" and I was so scared that it took weeks for me to take her to the vet for chest x-rays. She had pretty much the same symptoms that Bo is having. I had all but convinced myself that the cancer had spread to her lungs. I dragged myself in there, tears falling, just "knowing" it was the beginning of the end. Well, obviously it wasn't. It was a silly respiratory infection that was cleared up with antibiotics. And here we are at nearly 33 months post-amp... and still cancer-free.

Dane Mom Sue at nova.tripawds.com and Mom to Beautiful Great Dane Queen Nova, a Blind Tripawd, who kicked cancer's butt from 11/08-03/13. The Queen is Spirit Nova now, but her legacy lives on here at Tripawds!
Let's hope that it's a respiratory infection. Paws are crossed that the antibiotics work and Bo starts to feel better and starts eating again. This roller coaster ride sucks sometimes doesn't it? Congrats on your job! (I am also not looking forward to the end of summer and no longer being with chili dawg and my kids-teaching is rewarding it's just hard when your mind is elsewhere). Thinking of you guys!
Diagnosed with OSA: 5/2/2011 Ampuversary: 5/11/2011 OSA returned in hip: 8/26/2011
Chili Dawg crossed the Rainbow Bridge on 8/30/2011 & is now pain free. He was my heart dog, and I miss him every day.
I'm voting for upper respiratory infection as well. Sending good thoughts.
For the Tramadol - Trouble always did well with it. We took her off it a little too soon after surgery and had to put her back on it for another week or so. After that she was good to go. Throughout her tripawd life, I was never without a Rx for Tramadol. I used it when she acted achy, and the vet trusted me to be able to make that determination.

I have hesitated in posting an update because I feel like if it is written, it is really true. But, this community has been so kind and supportive to us, that it is only fair to be completely honest.
Bo is not well. The antibiotics and cough tablets had little effect on his overall status. He only coughs when he gets really excited, so he is now restraining himself from being excited to prevent the cough. His mobility went from bad to worse overnight and is only able to get up with assistance. He seems to be really frustrated about this. He is eating small amounts of human food: hotdogs, cottage cheese, chicken, steak, whatever he wants. He seems to rest comfortably, but is taking shallow breaths and is in deep thought.
We spent the day being very sad yesterday. Our plans were to go to the beach today with Bo, but I thought it might be too much for him. Lee told me that it is not fair to Bo for his last days to be spent in the house with me crying over him. I agree! We are packing up and going to the beach for the day. You better believe the camera is charged and in the car too!
We will talk to the vet tomorrow. I know we have mentioned Prednisone, but we are not sure that is the route we are going to go. But, we will deal with tomorrow, tomorrow. Today, we are smiling and headed to the coast with our sweet boy!
Enjoy the day with Bo. Try not to cry in his presence, he will know you are upset about him. I know this is difficult. Trouble's last week I spent driving and crying. Every time I got in the car, the tears just flooded out.
Sending good thoughts for a wonderful day at the beach and a positive vet visit tomorrow.

I am praying that you have a memorable day at the beach with Bo. I'm so sorry that the antibiotics aren't working right now and I hope the vet has something good to offer up tomorrow and that it's not "the cough" but something different. I'm sorry, Meghan.

the monkeydogs only THINK they have invaded the tripawd state
It's very good to hear that Bo can have a nice day out, I bet he'll have a good time even if it just means napping on the beach in the sunshine. Our pack is sending good thoughts for all of you.
Julie, mom to Spirit Max the Pomeranian,
the bravest poofle dog who ever lived!
Meghan, we're so sorry to hear this. We know that ride well and as you've learned, all you can do is live day to day. It's one of those things that cancer teaches us; never take tomorrow for granted.
I hope your day at the beach was beautiful and all of you spent the afternoon smiling and enjoying eachother's company. No matter what happens next, good times like that will stay in your hearts forever.
We are thinking of you.

Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
I am sorry that your boy is still having trouble a vet visit is a good idea and giving the antibiotics more time to work it too!
Bud had a URI after we came home from his amp surgery, he was coughing and so lethargic that he would not eat and would rarely get up even for a drink of water. I was so worried. He had also contracted MRSA whilein ICU and I thought that may have caused pnemonia and of course jumped to all of the wrong conclusions thinking he may be a gonner. I took him to the vet on call and they tested his blood and added another antibiotic. It took days to see improvement and follow up vet visits. It was weeks before the cough disappeared. He would still cough when he regained his strength and would get up to greet us. It was scary and frustrating, it was when I became a tripwad member.
So keep some hope in your heart and enjoy your day!!!! Keeping our paws crossed for you!
Meghan,
We are sorry to hear Bo is having these problems; hopefully like everyone says that it is something else. Glad that you went ahead with the trip to the beach, as it will be good for all of you.
