This morning I think Holly was stung by a bee on her right front paw (she's a right rear amp).  She came in limping and holding her paw at an odd angle, and I found a yellow jacket on that leg.  I called the vet and left a message (it was only about 20 minutes until they open, and he often is there early).  He called back and we discussed what I was seeing and he said to ice it, and that the piroxicam she's on for her metronomics would help as an anti-inflamatory.  After about an hour she seemed fine - we took a short walk this afternoon, she ate her meals today - nothing odd.  But tonight she's been licking her paw a ton, and when I looked her nails on that paw are really pale (she has black nails usually).  She was panting, and seemed really uncomfortable so I gave her some Tramadol since my vet had told me that is ok to use if she's in pain since it's compatible with the other meds she's on for metronomics .  She's laying in bed with me and has just settled down to sleep - finally stopped panting and worrying/licking that paw.  I'll call the vet in the morning, but in the meantime Holly would appreciate any pawsitive, healing thoughts that anyone can send her way.  I'll send an update once I know anymore.

Thanks,

Holly and Susan

Sorry that Holly might have gotten stung by a bee! Those are the worst! Especially if you sit on one (speaking from experience)!

Chloe and I are sending our pawsitive thoughts that it will be ok soon!!

Holly, what did you get yourself into this time??? Sending lots of pawsitive thoughts your way. Yellow jackets are really nasty. Chloe got stung on her snout years ago, and boy did that swell up! As Tracy asked, make sure the stinger is out.

Paws crossed!

Sending lots of positive and healing thoughts your way Holly! Those nasty yellow jackets…………and those stings can itch like mad. More than likely the stinger is out and was probably not left in.

I hope holly gets to feeling better soon,

Thanks, everyone!  Holly is doing much better today.  We went to see her vet, and he found one of her pads had really bad abrasions.  We're not sure if she chewed it yesterday due to the sting, or whether it was something else.  He said it would be like if we had a huge blister on the bottom of our heel or ball of our foot and it opened up.  So he put some antibiotic ointment on it and wrapped it so she can't lick it and will see her again in 3-5 days.  Phew!  Last night at 11pm all I could think of was to hope that the cancer hadn't returned to her paws!  (and I know that is highly unlikely, but I was so worried).  Anyway, I knew if I asked for pawsitive thoughts it would help her, and it did indeed!  Thank you thank you thank you!  Sending big Holly kisses to everyone!

Hugs,

Holly and Susan

PS - Zuzu, who was spayed on Wednesday, is not acting at all like a dog who had surgery 48 hours ago.  She just wants to play.  I would like to bottle up her energy and sell it on ebay - they we could keep the lights on at tripawds furever!!  rasberry <-- that's what Zuzu seems to look like all the time.  Holly usually has a more mature, older woman smile on her face. smile or kiss.

Kami, Mackenzie and Kobe

My sweet golden Mackenzie.  She became my angel on Dec 29, 2010 at the age of 8 1/2  although she was always my angel from the time we brought her home.  She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in Sept 2009 and officially became a tripawd (front leg) on Nov 5, 2009.  She will be forever in my heart and now she's running free with all of our other tripawd heroes.  I love you Mackenzie!

Oh Holly, my BFF!

I'm so glad I came in late, I would have been sick with worry!   Thank dawgitty!  Phew! is right!   You are my trooper!

Monkeybutt got a tattoo when he was "fixed" – you should have insisted they put an ugly tattoo on Zuzu!  Monkeydogs should have an ugly tattoo so we can spot the monkeydogs!
