Hello, I explain my case. I have a labrador of 1 year just completed. 3 weeks ago thefront leg amputated at the carpus (the equivalent to our wrist) due to necrosis caused bya bad set dressing. We are going to put a prosthesis but first you have to gain muscle mass. have told us that swimming 1 or 2 times a week for therapy, but we have noswimming pool, and less in winter. need to advise me on therapies, massage, or someway for muscle gain, muscle atrophy and already has one notes the leg bone at all, haslost all the muscle. or some way to make a homemade prosthetic to enable support.thank you very much, excuse my English but I'm from Spain. are some videos of dog

Finally, what is your dog's name and why do you think he/she needs a prosthetic? Most dogs adapt much easier to life on three legs than they do to having something attached to their limb. If your dog is overweight, he may need the additional support, but you may be surprised at how well he does.

Just watched your videos! Otto looks like a very happy dog.
With so much of his limb left, he may actually do well with a prosthetic. You might consider contacting Orthopets.

Thank you very much everyone for your advice, really. I already had contact by mailOrthopets, I said it was a perfect candidate for a prosthesis. The lifetime let a 3 leggedis the last thing we do, the dog managed well to 3 feet but is a very big dog and overtime we do not have arthritis or spinal problems. thank you very much for your help again. And Otto put more photos here! a greeting and I am delighted to join this forum.hugs for everyone.
Welcome! Otto is a handsome fellow! Daisy works with her balance ball indoors right now- its too snowy and cold outside to do much here in New York. We were fortunate to have a therapy vet nearby with a water treadmill and we were able to use our swimming pool in the summer. (Its frozen solid right now ) The swimming really did help her build muscle.

Everyone is guaranteed a welcome sniff and Dalmatian smile
Welcome to you and Otto!

What a happy boy ! Even with the "cone of shame "... he is still playing. I think he will do very well.

"It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them. And every new dog who comes into my life gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are."

Looks like Otto might just get the hang of using that prosthetic paw!

My Comet was born with a front deformed leg from birth. She just passed away in January at 12 years old from bleeding internally. It did get hard seeing her hop in old age. She was fine for so many years until the last year and a half. The hopping for so many years does take a toll on their bodies.
I very happy for Otto!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
