My dog just had his second round of Carboplatin.  Last night he panted heavily all night.  No wheezing, No coughing, Gums look good. But is clearly in distress. (Osteosarcoma had leg amputation) I gave him his Amantadine and Gababpentin.  Yunnon Bayo , CBD oil and nothing, no changes, just panting, panting, no sleep.  any suggestions?  Should I take him in to the vet today?

Hey there, how's he doing now? Did you call your vet?

Did you see Dr. Pam's response?

I did, they want to add Zofran to the mix to help with his nausea.  He currently has Cerenia to take as needed (which has kept vomiting ) at bay.  I will see how that goes.  He was not this nauseous round one.  This time he pants, and drools after eating. He is even passing up meals sometimes till later in the day. So I sure hope this helps!!!!!!

We have had great success with Zofran (ondansetron) & Cerenia for our cat Saxton. No idea if this is the same for dogs. I'm very hopeful adding the Zofran (ondansetron) will make a difference, given every 8-12 hours.

The Zofran is magical for nausea and quick acting. Usually, it only takes an hour, and our cat Saxton asks for his meal.

Our vet explained that cerenia works systemic and also reduces inflammation. The Zofran works more in the brain. Both are excellent.

I have noticed that Zofran works better for nausea and does not make them sleepy, which Cerenia can. Cerenia seems to help better to stop puking. Again this is our experience with a cat;) Not a dog. We have used both drugs at one time as directed by our vet once.

It is expensive. Fyi we were not given a heads up. Worth it, YES!
Feel better, buddy!

Oooh paws crossed it helps!

Holly, thanks for sharing your experience about Zofran versus Cerenia. I didn't realize that Cerenia can cause drowsiness.

Thats pretty much what our Oncologist explained!  And yes the Zofran worked!!!!  Both Cerenia and Zofran are expensive but boy he sure needs it and makes a difference in his recovery!  Thank you so much for your experience!!!!

Yes, keep it on hand, and "don't be afraid to use it" was what our vet said! I call it the magic pill;) And a must for chemo patients!

Agree worth the cost to help our furmily feel better!
