Hi guys!
My sweet Addi had her RH leg amputated in February due to an aggressive grade 3 mast cell tumor diagnosis.
We were planning on doing chemo (vinblastine) in June. Unfortunately, her mast cell cancer came back much sooner than anticipated and she now has systemic disease with multiple tumors appearing this week alone. My oncologist suggested some additional staging and putting her on Palladia and Prednisone. Does anyone have experience with this drug? Particularly to treat mast cell cancer?I want to have hope for her but, I know her prognosis is very poor.
Thank you all for any input!
Hi Addi and family, welcome. We are so sorry you're dealing with this diagnosis. It can be so overwhelming, just know you are not alone. Many Tripawds have managed mast cell cancer successfully with Palladia, your oncologist is spot-on with their recommendation. The drug was actually developed for mast cell cancers and has good results with that cancer. Y
Here are search results for Tripawds who coped with mast cell cancer using Palladia. It may require you to do some sifting but you'll see some examples there. You may also want to check out the Dog Cancer Survival Guide , which has tons of information about it.
How is Addi doing with her mobility? Is everything else OK on that side of things?

Hi Jerry,
Thank you for the information and thank you so much for all you do with this site. It is greatly appreciated
I had never even heard of Chlorambucil before I saw the Tripawds board on mast cell cancer.
Addi seems to be doing ok with her mobility although she does seem much more subdued. She had a really bad flare up this past week and developed over 20 new mast cell tumors on her face and chest. This disease is so bizarre.
You are so very welcome. I'm glad that you found us, and hopefully feel a little better during a very tough time.
It's a bonus that Addi's mobility is pretty good, that's not easy considering the mast cell cancer. She's a strong girl! I can see that in her eyes, love the avatar photo. I'm curious, is she on any pain medication right now? I ask because you mention she is subdued, which is one of several common pain signals .
Also, what kinds of diagnostics did your oncologist recommend? Do you think you will do them? If you haven't seen the list of Questions to Ask Your Oncologistyet, you may find it super helpful.
I hope you guys have a restful night with lots of cuddle time!

Hello,
My oncologist did several chest xrays, an ultrasound and took several aspirates in addition to a CBC. They found that her spleen and lymph nodes were very enlarged and believe she has wide spread metastasis so unfortunately for my girl its not looking good at all. She didn't prescribe any pain meds but she did prescribe me Palladia, Prednisone, Cerenia, Metronidazole, Pepcid and Benadryl to help mediate some side effects from the Palladia. She thinks at most she has 3 months to live which is so disheartening.
Thank you for the list! I will certainly look at those for our next check up
Ah, OK. I'm so sorry about the results. The diagnostics sound like they gave a complete picture, not the one anyone wanted. I wish there was a magic pill to change it.
What I can recommend is to first, know that Addie is her own dog. She is on her own timeline and there's no set way to how this will play out. Hopefully she will defy the odds and have lots of great days ahead. In the meantime, ask your vet if they can refer you to a veterinary hospice service. It doesn't necessarily mean that Addi will follow the prognosis, but it just means that this type of vet can focus on making sure she's pain-free, comfortable, and has a good quality of life for as long as possible. They come to your home, usually, and offer tons of different suggestions for keeping her happy. These vets are also very helpful when you aren't sure that her time is at hand and you want an honest opinion/evaluation. If your vet doesn't know one let me know and I can try to locate one for you. Our "Resources" Page has hospice info there if you're not familiar with this service.
Give Addi lots of lovin' and belly rubs from us! We are keeping you in our thoughts and sending lots of pawsitivity!

Just want to join in on sending Addie all sorta of love and pawsitive energy. Your bond comes shining through and you are clearly doing everything possible to give your girl extended quality time for spoiling and loving.
Jerry offered great insight on so many levels.
As ,long as she's not in pain, being "subdued " isn't really causing g her a y discomfort, so that's a good thing. It actually gives her more time to lounge around for more tummy rubs and smooches and cuddling and any yummy foods she'll eat. The Prednisone may help give her a good appetite, plus it does shrink inflammation around any tumors.
Ma y sogs beat the odds when it comes to "statistics " amd we are hoping Addie is one of them!- In the meantime make every moment the best mome t ever and don't let this piece of crap disease interfere with your time together. Addie sure isn't! She's just living in the NOW and enjoying all the spoiling.
Give the treat, ent time to kick in and update as uou can, okay? AMD we would love to see more pictures of your sweet girl. Here's a link to help post them. adding images

Hi Jerry and Benny,
Thank you both for your messages! Its nice to be around folks who have some hope for my girl.
I had no clue there was even such a thing a veterinary hospice- I will certainly look into that.
So far so good with the meds although I am unsure when it starts to kick in.
Rachel and Addi
You are so welcome! Yes, look into the hospice vets, they are amazing. If you want help finding one just let me know.
