Today is Diwali, the biggest festival in India. A time to celebrate new beginnings. I never believed in this stuff before, never really cared to celebrate. Honestly, I was always annoyed by these celebrations and the noise and the fireworks. But today is different. Gabbar, with his resilience has made me realize what is important. So here's to new beginnings. Let's celebrate every day like it's Diwali, Christmas, Thanksgiving, Eid, Hannukah, or whatever! Happy Diwali to you all!

This is the greatest photo! Gabbar looks great, and actually, even though I know you are probably all pretty sleep deprived, you all look happy! Happy Diwali! This truly is about a new, pain free beginning for Gabbar!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife
Thanks for the Gabbar updates! It is SO clear he feels better and by the looks on your faces in your "pack" picture, so does everyone else. While there may be some moments that are challenging in his recovery, I think there is no doubt you did the right thing for him. And rather prophetic that this happened at the same time as a festival to celebrate new beginnings. Happy Diwali indeed to everyone!!

Thanks everyone. Here's a video from day before. One of our friends dropped by to check on Gabbar & got him a new toy. He's still up for some tug of war.

Just wanted to check in on you guys. How is Gabbar doing?

We're doing good. Gabbar had a follow-up vet visit today. Vet was very happy and pleasantly surprised at how well he was doing and how happy he looked. His surgery sutures and staples are holding well and keeping dry. He's eating and pooping well, although yesterday was a nightmare for him because of the Diwali fireworks. Everytime he would squat to pee, fireworks would explode somewhere in the vicinity, sending him into a tizzy.
They did a basic check on the harvested lymph node and said it looked clear. The more detailed results from the bigger sample will take 3-4 days. Pain meds (Meloxicam) have been stopped. His Fentanyl patch also was not replaced. Vet felt he seemed good, and didn't want him to become a junkie! Antibiotics will be continued, with some bone supplements, hip & joint etc.
Still trying to figure out a good diet for him. Started him and Suzy both on Turmeric golden paste twice a day. And I've eliminated grains completely from their diet. So it's lentils, chicken, eggs, boiled vegetables. I'm going to try adding Ragi (finger millet) porridge with chicken and vegetables from tomorrow. Hopefully they take to it. The vet has asked us to essentially eliminate carbs as much as possible.
Now, I'm still trying to figure out what the next steps are, based on the test results. Any cancer-specific medication, supplements etc. We've taken a call to avoid chemotherapy, and just focus on quality of life for Gabbar from here on. I am looking for a good holistic vet to consult with.
Here's a selfie of Gabbar & I after the vet visit earlier today, as we waited in the car while his mom picked up some lunch:
