Thanks everyone! As a quick update, Titan's MRI came back clear of a herniated disc or any further spread of his cancer so that is great news! It showed swelling and inflammation of muscles in his neck and near his spine, leading to his pain. We are on a new pain management regimen which includes 600mg of gabapentin 3x a day, a muscle relaxer 3x a day and his usual carprofen of 50mg, 2x a day. We still have trazadone if we need it from a sedative perspective, but will avoid using it due to his adverse reactions.
He will be on even greater bed rest for the next 2 weeks while he heals. We are hoping we can get him rested up and healed quickly so he will be back on his 3 feet and can continue his adjustment to his new way of life!
WHEW! Oh that's such a good report. It sucks that he's hurting but it makes total sense. And totally treatable! Looks like Titan is going to get his own massage therapist. I'm jealous!
Neck pain in Tripawds isn't at all uncommon, especially in the early days of life on three. That pain management prescriptions sounds wonderful! What is the muscle relaxer? And who is the clinic you are working with? They sound awesome. Be sure to put a shout out in the Veterinary Specialist Referrals topic when you're able.

We are glad it wasn’t anything worse as well! The muscle relaxer is diazepam. We have been going to Ohio State University vet hospital since his original diagnosis two years ago. They have taken such great care of us. His oncologist has become like a friend and even while being there for this muscle strain, called to check in on us and looks in on him frequently. We have received best in class care with them and are very thankful we are local to such a great university (biased bc my husband and I are both grads) and veterinary clinic/hospital.
Oh lucky you! OSU has such an incredible vet hospital and research projects, I can't think of a single member who has had a bad experience there. Lucky dawg!
Thanks for the diazepam info. The muscle relaxer addition was a real game changer for our Wyatt when he had an iliopsoas strain. It didn't make him any sleepier and really helped him feel better. I don't know why more vets don't think of prescribing it.
