Hi all:  Enzo, the warrior standard poodle, was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma on 11.22.23 and had surgery on 11.29.23 for a left hind limb amputation, so it's almost 3 weeks into recovery.  He is doing GREAT.  I mean seriously awesome. My husband took the first week off from work to stay home with him.  I brought him to my office the second week post surgery.  He had his stitches out last week on Friday, and was cleared to go back to being his normal happy, sweet poodley self.  He's is currently snoozing by my chair sunning himself on the patio.  We are in Central Florida, so it's sunny and 70 degrees. He's eating, playing, running around with his other standard poodle pals, and enjoying life again. I can tell that the pain he was in before the surgery is gone.   He has gotten the knack of 3 legs so quickly that I want to be as resilient has he is.  We did 2 rehab treatments and you can tell he is getting stronger on his remaining back leg.  He's also gotten the hang of pooping on 3 legs (folks, that requires a lot of balance). He had his first chemo treatment yesterday.  He seems to be doing OK.  I was expecting the worst again.  But aside from some GI upset and maybe a little decreased appetite, you would just not know he had a chemo treatment.  He doesn't seem terribly lethargic, but he is a bit of a couch potato so maybe we are just talking about degrees here smiley4

I want to assure those people who have just started this journey, it does get better pretty quickly. I would never have believed it if I didn't live it.  I will keep you all updated on his chemo treatments.  They recommended 6 carboplatin infusions, with chest X-rays half way though.

Thank you so everyone who provided words of encouragement, experience, advice, and sanity saving tips! I am very grateful to be part of this group.

We loooove updates like this!!!  Thank you for sharing how things are going.....and they really are going well!!!👏👏

It's so reassuring for newbies to know recoveries  like this  are why we do what we do!  Sure, getting to the point where Enzo is isn't always easy and is full of ups and downs often.    This is proof though, that it's well worth navigating through recovery to get to this point.

Good job!

Merry Christmas to all the Poodle pack and their hoomans!🎄🎄

Enzo the warrior poodle has completed ALL of his chemo and literally sailed right through it.  He had none of the usual side effects like loose stools or lethargy.  His midway point chest x-ray was clear.  And now we only go back once every 3 month for follow up chest x-rays.  The amputation and chemo was the best decision I ever made.  I am not sure how much time we have together, but it will be happy and pain-free.  He has completely adapted to life on 3 legs. We go for walks again, albeit not as long as before, but he always comes home smiling.  Thank you for the love and support when we started this journey - it's only gotten better with time.  Anne, Enzo and the SPOO crew.
