Hi community,

Our dog Max is seven and this winter was diagnosed with cancer in his right hind leg.  We carefully considered all of our options and ultimately came to amputation.  Max is in surgery right now.  My husband sent me a link to this forum.  I would love to know what you wish you would have know/what you did immediately after surgery to help your pet?

Assuming all goes well, Max is coming home tomorrow.  Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much.

Abby

Hi Abby, Max, and hubby. Welcome! Your future posts won't need to wait for approval so post away.

I'm sorry to hear about the diagnosis. What kind of cancer was he diagnosed with having?

We are keeping our paws crossed for a speedy and uneventful recovery!

I would love to know what you wish you would have know/what you did immediately after surgery to help your pet?

Check out our What to Expect articles , there's lots in there about coming home and caring for him during recovery.  Our Tripawds Recovery Shopping List also outlines things you can do to make your home and assisting him easier.

The biggest thing you can do is maintain a pawsitive attitude, and advocate for good pain management . Do you know what kind of pain control they are sending him home with? Be sure to check out:
