Update: Milli gets her stitches out today! She is doing very well at 2 weeks post op. I am so happy about that. What I am not happy about is her biopsy results, as they came back this morning as Osteosarcoma. So now we enter the next realm of decisions. So much I don’t yet fully understand from what I have read on this website. Any suggestions on how to find a reputable oncologist? I can go with what my vet recommends but I’m wondering if anyone knows one in AZ? Cost may be an issue but will determine that at after I get my ducks in a row. At this point Milli’s lungs and bloodwork are clear.

Alrighty Milli! Stitches are out and your sparkle will con to come back more and more!!
Sorry about the diagnosis. But it doesn't mean a thi g to Milli. She's feeling good and that's all that matters to her!
Someone will probably co e along and give you li ks to an Oncologist in your area. Who did your regular Vet suggest??
And remember, no guarantees with, or without chemo one way or another. Needless to say, finances are an important. Apart of the equation. No right or wrong when it comes to this, okay??
Take some deep breaths and celebrate that Millinis doing well and is oo the road to living life to the fullest!
I think Milli should have a soop of ice cream to celebrate stitch removal😎🍨

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Milli is rockin the recovery! YAY! Getting stitches out is such a big deal, and will help all of you feel like you've tackled the toughest part of recovery. It does suck about the diagnosis but many pups here have outlived the prognoisis, so we like to say "Prognosis schmognosis!" Milli is going to live life to the fullest no matter what, so try hard to focus on her joy for life and getting more time with you. I know it's hard right now but you can do it, and it's such great medicine for her!
It sounds like you have an awesome vet who did a great thing by referring you to an oncologist. We have lots of input we can offer, and some articles that can help you decide where to get treated. Can I ask the name of the practice your vet works with? I'm happy to give you my take on them if you'd like.
First, where in AZ are you? Closer to Phoenix or Tucson? When possible in a region, we always prefer to look at AAHA-accredited clinics first. The link will explain why.
Wherever you go, here is a list of Questions to Ask Your Vet Oncologist that can help you prepare for the appointment.

We were referred to Arizona Veterinary Oncology in Gilbert, AZ which is not too far from where we live. Have you ever heard of them? Unless I missed it, I didn’t see any AAHA accreditation, although they look to all be board certified - if that makes a difference. Tucson is about 1.5 hours away and wouldn’t be completely out of the question. Thinking about changing her diet to higher protein and less carbs. I don’t know with my schedule if so can make all of her food. Weighing and looking at options if anyone has any suggestions.

Hi Jane,
I would feel 100% comfortable going to that clinic, their docs have stellar backgrounds and their facility is top notch. No, they aren't AAHA-accredited , but based on what I'm seeing there, I would still feel good about them if it's the most convenient to your home. As specialists, cancer care is all they do and they seem to know their stuff.
As for diet and nutrition, be sure to check out our Tripawds Nutrition blog , and also the Dog Cancer Survival Guide, it's a go-to resource when you begin this journey.

So glad to hear your input on the clinic, thank you! I ordered the dog cancer survival book and can’t wait to get it. I will definitely check out the nutrition blog as well. I will call the clinic on Monday.
