I have wondered a lot the same thing about the vets, Coops Dr is a young guy - he oozes with confidence too, but I did see some fear and apprehension when I rushed Cooper in the other day. Problem is once you are in as far as we are and we live in a very rural area - there arent many options. The second surgery site looks much better, Coopers strength today is astonishing to me, he did things today that have shocked me. Coopers vet talked to us and said he didnt feel he had done anything wrong and that the technique he used he had used successfully before - in fact another dog he had done an amputation on exactly the same as Coopers was back today almost a year from it and doing fine and never had trouble. I am a firm believer that there is a bigger picture to everything , not just a snapshot and maybe our experiences are used to help others. Our vet did feel badly that things turned out the way they did and split the cost of the second surgery with us. he has shown true compassion and true passion for what he does, and he still has my vote of confidence. Most of the vets in this area just treat the animals like something coming through a revolving door, no compassion , no love no warmth. As things progress I will talk more on this , but right now I believe that sometimes bad things just happen and thats the way it is. I sense no neglect on the part of this young vet - and every occupation starts with inexperience , I guess that is the hard facts of it.

You're right, Coopsdad. Bad things sometimes just happen, and without negligence on anyone's part. Glad you still have confidence in your vet and that he's shown such compassion and concern, and that he acted on Cooper's situation in such a timely, timely manner!
Enjoy having Cooper home. It sounds like he's doing great!

Caties mom, oh! you just wouldnt believe how well he is doing! He has shocked me several times tonight and I was worried about major setbacks... he must have been sicker earlier than we thought with this infection which really shows it was good that it opened up. tonight there is peace in this house for all three of us that we havent had in awhile.

We're glad to hear that Coop's doing well, and will keep all fingers and paws crossed for an uneventful recovery now!

Pssst - Coop! Holly here... make sure your pawrents give you plenty of treats. I was able to get tons when I was recovering, it's easy to get them when you're reCOOPerating!
Holly joined the world of tripawds on 12/29/2009. She has a big little sister, Zuzu, who idolizes Holly and tries to make all of her toys into tripawds in Holly's honor. And she's enjoying life one hop at a time!

First, I'm tickled that you guys are doing so well and that Coop is doing so much better. It's nice to hear that everything seems right in your household!
I'm glad to know that Coop's vet made it right! You are right, things just happen. I never was upset with my vet when my dog died while I was waiting in an exam room to pick her up after a sucessful knee surgery. She must have thrown a blood clot. My vet was so distraught (and white as a ghost!). My husband talked with him on the phone for a while to calm him once we got home. We were all upset but he questioned himself on whether he should have given her a blood thinner.
So, they are human. My ortho vet is very cocky but he has a British accent so it makes it all okay!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Nothing like peace in the house, especially on a Friday night. Enjoy the sounds of success!
As for vets...just seems kinda strange that we've had a series of botched or infected amputations lately. Is something in the water? Mercury in retrograde? Who knows. Just glad that the pups are doing better. Whew!

You got it on youtube, right?
Here's some easy (I hope) instructions complete with porn background music:

Awww, Cooper is getting the hang of it! Way to go Cooper! It'll get easier, buddy!
Sammy's mom added crazy, biting off the head of a rat - hate music to her first video of Sammy walking! I'm glad you opted to not do that! (in fairness, she didn't have her speakers turned on)

Oh, isn't it great how heartwarming a 28-second video can be! So great to see Cooper moving about!
He's a darling. So glad for him and you that he's doing so well!
Fingers, toes and paws crossed that the rest of his recovery is speedy and uneventful!
