Everything you are doing is soooo clearly in the Vet interest of Attocu and k owing him soooo well!!  Letting  Atticus be Atticus  is all he wants....and veing loved and spoiled non stop!

The friend I referenced above usi. ng the Yunan Baiyao just got back from a follow up visit today.  Everything  is "holding steady"...staying "stable.  And the Vet "prepared" her for "it" might just be a matter of days before the "release"........that was over a month-plus ago!

And I cannot stress enough for you to revisit the post I made above where I mentioned "Bob". Outwardly, regardless of the awful xrays, etc, he maintained  a good quality  of life for eight months.  I'm  not saying any of this as "false hope".....I'm saying it as an example  to always hope until there is no reason to.  And right now, based on Atticus  still being Atticus, you have every reason to hope for good continued quality  time.

And just one more thing along those lines.  Bob did have a day or so ecery now and then where maybe he didn't  eat as much or maybe was a bit slower. I called it a "less good day"....then he woul get back knto "better good" days.

Oh, and I'll check knto the brand Yunan my friend is using.  I do know when she was searching it and from the searches I did here on the site, soooo many were out of stock or looong delivery  dates.

In fact, it may be worth posting under Ask A Vet for a brand and where to buy it in stock.  Maybe someone  on here can address that for you??

Extra hugs.....and pictures of Atticus  eating a scoop of ice cream or steak or cupcake!!

It's good to hear from you, I'm glad you shared what's been going on in your heart and mind and of course with Atticus. That's awesome he is still doing so well!

The decision to opt out of treatment is understandable. I would likely feel the same way. When we had to make that call with Jerry, Palladia wasn't around yet. But we could have done a lung lobectomy, a major surgery that we just didn't want to put him through. So I totally get and respect your decision.

Your heart and mind have mostly come to an agreement it sounds like, and that is the biggest gift you can give to him right now. Confidence that you are making choices for him out of love, and a total willingness to live in the Now and Be More Dog . He is undoubtedly so very proud of you.

I don't have a source for the Yunan Baiyo herbs, you may want to post in Ask a Vet because I believe our fairy vet mother uses it in her practice. I could be wrong but it can't hurt to ask.

Meanwhile when you are up to it, let us get a peek at all the adventures you are having with him, it sounds like spoiling him rotten is tons of fun and a good way to stay present together.

((((hugs)))) any time you want to talk we are here.

I found yunan baiyao on WalMart's website. so I ordered it there. At this point, what could it hurt, right?

Here's an attempt to get a family selfie at the beach. Very hard with a Great Dane.

Atticus got a sweet new bomber jacket because it was so cold at the beach.

Haha....,..That's a great "natural"  selfie!!  The dogs look like they are deliberately  avoided the camera. 😉 Atticus looks like he's whispering  in your ear....or trying to snuggle in your nice warm hoodie😎

Atticus looks quite dashing  in his stylish jacket.  Standing tall and proud!

Thanks for sharing these fun ...brrrrr....cold beach day photos

Hugs

PS...Yes, Walmart is where my friend got the Yanan Baiyao.  It was in stock and readily availavle Apparently  it starts with a loading does and then down to a maintenance  dose.

Four Leaf Rover. I got the Immunity mushroom blend at first, which has a bunch of mushrooms, including turkey tail. I switched to the Turkey Tail after Atticus’ pathology report showed he might actually have hemangiosarcoma. The Turkey Tail is cheaper, and has higher levels/dose of turkey tail.

Okay.  We are using Double Wood Turkey Tail and same brand Reishii Mushrooms.  Been using both since January with all of my dogs.... to boost the immune system.  So far, 2 out of the 3 have gotten cancer.  Go figure.  But I do think that the mushrooms definitely helped keep the first dog's cancer in check for quite a while before he was diagnosed.  I went out of country for 7 weeks and didn't leave instructions for my husband to give the mushroom supplements because he has a hard enough time doing the bare minimum.  I feel like both dogs not getting their supplements led to the acceleration of the cancer.  We are still not sure what Bear had (he passed in September) smiley6smiley6smiley6 but he was limping pretty bad on his left forelimb.  Much like Harley.  But x-rays were clean.  Probably should have opted for a Cat Scan.  Ultrasound was not done of the leg but was done of the abdomen and he had small masses on his liver, left kidney and his adrenal glands were enlarged.  He only lasted a month after that ultrasound 🙁   Stopped eating and when a Lab stops eating, it's alarming.

When Harley went for his surgery re-check yesterday, I met a lady who's GSD was in for a re-check from surgery for Hemangiosarcoma on his spleen.  They removed the tumor and the spleen and yesterday, his chest x-rays were clear - almost 3 months since surgery.  And no chemo being done.  The owner didn't seem to be too informed about stuff but the dog was doing great.  He looked very healthy and energetic.   I told her about Turkey Tail and also about Yunnan Baiyo.    Hoping your pup will still have a lot more quality time with help from the supplements and the abundant love he is getting.

Atticus left us tonight, at home, surrounded by his family. On his last day he got to go for a walk on the beach, eat a meatball sub and get a puppachino. He declined really quickly over the past few days. I'm glad he could hold on for our final beach trip. And I'm glad I could help peacefully end his suffering, in my arms.

I wish it had turned out differently, and I had him for longer. But I'm glad we had 4 1/2 good months even after the cancer diagnosis.

I don't really know what to do with myself now, but I know for sure I will honor Atticus by helping and rescuing dogs for the rest of my life.

Oh Megan, my heart just broke, I'm so sorry! Thank you for thinking of us at a ruff time like this, it's such an honor.

I know you are hurting and feeling the loss, and I hope that some day you can take comfort in knowing you gave Atticus such an amazing life right up until the end. As Sally would say, he has shed his worn out earth clothes, but that doesn't mean he isn't present. He has a spirit that will forever shine brightly and inspire all of us.

It's odd. I was thinking of you guys all weekend and hoping things were good. I could feel his spirit so strongly that I was nudged into including in tomorrows Tripawds News a great quote you recently shared about his recovery. I hope that's ok. Again, Atticus keeps on showing the world what a remarkable dog he was and always will be.

Please keep us posted on how you are doing ok? Once a Tripawd mom always a Tripawd mom, you are always part of this family.

Our dear sweet Megan....just so gutted to hear this.  So very, very sorry.  Our tears fall with yours and our hearts ate broken too.

Atticus....Warrior RockStar Atticus.  To do soooo well and maintain  his fit, full of life self.....still a shock when this piece of s××t disease  takes a dog like Atticus. It can never win though when a dog gets extra quality  time and kicks the disease  to the curb, at least for awhile.

You and Atticus had THE best time and definately  make every moment count!!!  You never let anything interfere  with Atticus  being Atticus.  And we have been sooooo privileged  to follow alongmby your side on this journey.

And you always shared helpful information  and supported  others during his early jour ey.  You and Atticus  DEFINITELY  touched life's here and made a positive impact  on us all.

We know rough days and weeks are ,ahead.  When you care for a dog so lovingly  and with such focus, and then the routines just stop....your whole world stops too.  You will, eventually,  find comfort in knowing  Atticus could not have been more loved and that he would not have traded his life with you for all the bones in the Universe.

He is running free now.  I truly believe that.  And The Rainbow Bridge has endless pristine  beaches for him to romp and play.  And he has jis very own bomber jacket the Angel's made for him upon his arrival.

When you can, please share more about this dog named Attocus....this dog who jumped into our hearts on day one.

With love and light

Aww Megan Im so sorry to hear about handsome Atticus. I haven’t been on here for a few days I actually did a search just to see how he was doing. He was a true fighter and I personally looked forward to your posts seeing what a strong doggy Mom you were to Atticus. You gave him the best possible life given his diagnoses and kept both of your heads up despite of them. My heart goes deep down for you as you remember his warm fuzzy face. He was a true gem! No doubt your self sacrifice and willingness to rescue will ease your heart and mind in the days to come. Atticus could enjoy all of his last days because you were by his side making sure of it. It’s the best thing we can do as pet parents. He will surely be missed physically but we are always here for you to share his legacy so he can live on in pup spirit. May your heart be at ease knowing his life story has and will continue to help many more Tripawds in the days to come. Big hugs xoxosp_hearticon2sp_hearticon2
