8 weeks today since his amputation +

3 round of chemo today =

11 years old.

Okay, so since I am an accountant by trade, I posted some numbers, 'cause that's how this party animal has fun! I might need a nap after all that fun...

We did his CBC before the chemo and his WBC count was low. This is the first time that we have seen it low. 4.06 (normally it runs on the low side of normal, around 5.5). My vet called the U and they said since his NEU (whatever in the heck that is!) was above 2.00, they would still go ahead with the chemo.

He hasn't been eating 'well'. Like a certain Pixie I've been reading about (too funny) Charlie has been getting bored with food. I have to switch it up at every meal if I want him to eat. Hamburger, hot dogs, peanut butter, sauces, wet food, tuna, etc. mixed into his dry kibble. If you try the same thing more than two times in a row, he refuses. The first time, he's all for it. The second time, he reluctantly finishes it. The third time, you're SOL. When I weighed him, his was down to 93.6 pounds. The vet mentioned an antacid and then I remembered a post on here.

So, we will put him on Tagamet (Cimetidine) versus the Pepcid, to see if maybe his tummy is upset.

Thank you to kai1 (I think that was the name, maybe tai1?) for posting that information!

And once again, total gratitude to this site and all of you!

Happy 8 week ampuversary Viking Queen!superstar NEU is for neutrophils... Hoping that everything goes well with the 3rd chemo cycle! Hopefully the antacids will help with the appetite... if not, then ask for an appetite stimulant. One of the tripawds here is on that...

Angel Jake and Wolfie's Mom

Jake, 10yr old golden retriever (fractured his front right leg on 9/1, bone biopsy revealed osteosarcoma on 9/10, amputation on 9/17) and his family Marguerite, Jacques and Wolfie, 5yr old german shepherd and the newest addition to the family, Nala, a 7mth old Bengal mix kittie. Jake lost his battle on 11/9/2009, almost 8 weeks after his surgery. We will never forget our sweet golden angel… http://jakesjou.....ipawds.com ….. CANCER SUCKS!

Happy 8 Week Ampuversary Charlie! Charlie's eating habits sound identical to Mackenzie when she was on carboplatin.  Can totally relate ...switching up the food at every meal, not liking the food if it was given twice in a row, trying every kind of food just to get her to eat something.  I used to pull my hair out.....  The doctors also had her on anti-nausea medication (an injection before her chemo and then pills for the next several days.) It helped and maybe something to talk to his doctor about if he's not taking anti-nausea meds.  By the 5th day or so, Mackenzie was back on track and got her appetite back.

So good luck with everything - we hope Charlie gets his appetite back soon - I know that it can be very stressful trying to get them to eat. When they eat, that makes for a very happy tripawd mom!laugh

Kami (Mackenzie's Mom)

My sweet golden Mackenzie.  She became my angel on Dec 29, 2010 at the age of 8 1/2  although she was always my angel from the time we brought her home.  She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in Sept 2009 and officially became a tripawd (front leg) on Nov 5, 2009.  She will be forever in my heart and now she's running free with all of our other tripawd heroes.  I love you Mackenzie!
