Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
So I ended up cutting the RMB into smaller pieces and she ate them right up very quickly. She was definitely hungry.
She is doing remarkably well. For anyone reading this who is scared of amputation, you need to believe that it really is a blessing. If Greta wasn't stuck wearing that cone I wouldn't know she had one less leg.
GREAT UPDATE!!! And great advice for others!!
My Hapy Hannah was one of the few who never had to wear the cone...she never bothered her stitches...so we were lucky there.
Is it a "soft collar cone" or one of those plastic ones? At least the soft collar ones are a little easier for them to navigate aro d in.
Keep these breat ypdates coing! YAAAAAY GRETA!

She has one of the hard cones that she cannot see through. Since she has to wear it for 2 weeks I'm going to research my options and see if I can find something better. I've read enough about the inflatable ones and see how hard she is trying to get at the stitches to know that will not work. I may try the one they can see through. I think it's a Kong.
I've been meaning to give an update on the cone. I ended up getting Greta a Comfy Cone.
My pro:
- It's very convenient to put on and take off. Greta is not bothering her stitches very much so she gets to be without it when someone is home to keep an eye on her. You simply wrap it around the neck and connect the Velcro and when you want to remove it you can just rip it off. Fast and easy especially at dinner time.
My con:
- I don't particularly care for the heaviness of it mostly because it seems like there isn't enough ventilation for my liking. However, this is probably just a problem for me and not Greta.
Greta had been doing so remarkably since the surgery which was one week ago today. Sadly, today, she is obviously not feeling well and I have no idea what to make of it. I noticed when I got home from work. I'll keep an eye on her. I had been adding some extra supplements to her dinner for about a week and I'm going to withhold them tonight in case they're upsetting her stomach. My gut is telling me that isn't the problem though and whatever it is, isn't good.
Thanks for the update on the cone, do you have a photo of it? Always good to know about stuff like this.
Sorry to hear she isn't feeling well. One week out is not a long time, and yes it could be the supplements. I would eliminate them for now and gradually roll in changes like that.
Stay strong, she's still early in recovery and needs time to adjust.

Thanks Jerry.
I'll try to remember to take a photo of her with the cone on tonight and post it. In the meantime here is a link to the website (I purchased mine on Amazon):
Oh thanks! What a coinky dinky, isn't this the one that Dolly Momma is using? http://tripawds.....5/#p123125

I have a little bit of an update. In my initial post I wrote the following:
"I agreed to have the x-ray sent to a radiologist for opinion who concurred but could not say it wasn’t a fungal infection. I completely expect any vet or physician to cover their butts when unable to base a diagnosis on solid test results. I’ve read enough about bone infections in dogs to be comfortable skipping a biopsy for confirmation. I’ve also read how painful the biopsy is."
The pathology came back today and it was confirmed to be osteosarcoma so we didn't cut the leg off for nothing (I never thought we had anyway but it doesn't hurt to know for sure).
I posted last night that I was worried because I could tell she wasn't feeling well. I don't feel that way this evening - I feel like she is back to normal. I'm thinking that maybe the drug taken yesterday upset her tummy. I'll never know (well I might know because I'll call Dr. Loops tomorrow to ask if this is something they've encountered before with the particular serum which was Carcinosin).
Have a good night.
Oh good! Glad she's doing better today! Yes, you may jave a few more ups and downs for a week or so, but pretty soon now her sparkle will come back full time.
Sheis just adorable!!
Satay co ected to us snd give sweet Greta extra ear scratches for us!
Hugs!

Glad to hear that Greta is recovering so well
The "early days" can be quite scary when our furbabies are adapting to their new normal and we are struggling with the balance between meds and pain.
Tucker also hated the cone of shame .....but he really needed it as he would not leave his incision site alone. The "real" Tucker returned about two weeks post amp when he had his sutures out, the Tramadol was discontinued and he no longer had to wear the dreaded cone.
Looking forward to future updates,
Linda and Tucker
Sorry it's osteo but at least you got an answer. It's always good to know exactly what you're dealing with.
I'm glad she's feeling good!

Good news. I spoke to Dr. Loops' office this morning (Sage is super nice and knowledgeable) and as it turns out the Carcinosin serum does in fact make the dogs feel bad so I'm happy to have an explanation for Greta acting ill the other day. She says that sometimes it will make them feel bad the first 1-3 times and we should always keep them posted because sometimes they have us double-dilute. I post this in case anyone goes on Dr. Loops protocol and experiences the same thing.
Have a great day and weekend and thank you again for your support.
