I haven't spent much time on the site recently but I wanted to update everyone.  Cassie was diagnosed with osteosarcoma on 10/9/13 and had her back leg was amputated on 10/22/13.  We consulted with an oncologist and in early November decided not to pursue chemo.   Given the chemo would not cure the cancer and only provide a 50% chance of making it 1 year, we decided to enjoy every day with her and not put her through the stress of chemo.  We were told she would live 3-5 months without chemo.

She is on a daily dose of Apocaps , K9 Transfer and K9 immunity along with tramadol, Rimadyl, fish oil and gabapentin.  So far (knock a lot of wood) there are no signs of the cancer showing.  We found a vet that makes house calls and she told us in February she was doing well.

Mobility is becoming more of an issue-understandable given the amount of use and stress the back leg gets.  We assist her going up stairs and I have been lifting her in and out of the car when I take her to day care and her frequent trip to the local pet store.

We are so blessed to have had this time with her and enjoy every minute we have with her.  Now that the weather is finally turning into spring we are looking forward to spending time outside.  We had so much snow this year I had to snow blow paths for her in the back yard so she could get around.

The information on the website along with everyone's stories have been a tremendous help in dealing with this.   I secretly prayed she would make it to April (her birthday month) and see her 8th birthday-she did it!  Thank you to everyone for sharing your stories.

Hoppy Birthday Cassie!  What a sweet girl.  Yay, you're almost to 6 months post amp.  Keep kickin' cancer's butt!

Amy & Spirit Libby

Liberty (Libby) was diagnosed with OSA on 1-22-13.  Right front amputation on 1-31-13. No IV Chemo. Metronomic Therapy started 2-19-13 along with supplements and some home cooking. Lungs clear until 1-06-14.  She's still her happy, hoppy, bossy self.  Living the dog life to the fullest and a proud Winter Warrior. :) RIP my Libby 4-21-03 to 3-19-14

Thank you so much for returning to update us! It's always a relief when no news is good news.

HOPPY BIRTHDAY CASSIE! clap

Cassie is already beating the odds, here's to sticking it to cancer! As for her mobility, have you seen the exercises and stretches in our ebook, Loving Life on Three Legs? Or considered some PT sessions? Even just a few sessions with a professional and then ongoing "homework" can make a big difference.

Check out these gentle stretches we just posted about in our Downloads Blog .

It's great to hear from you, we salute you and Cassie with a big Three Paws Up!
