Glad to hear it isn't cancer! Hopefully anti-inflammatories work out for her!
-Chloe's mom
Chloe became a rear amp tripawd on 7-29-10. Another tumor was removed on front leg 2-20-14. Found 3rd tumor on neck 2-2015, but she's still kicking cancer's butt at age 14. Chloe's blog
And you know, if there is a hurdle to jump, Calamity will do it!!! She jumped out of the back of the hatchback today before we could grab her to lift her out & thought she might go racing down the street until I said the word "treat", then she thought getting a treat was much better than a running adventure!
Nothing & I mean nothing stops her from being the girl she was before her break & the year she spent with surgeries & splints & such! She still races Munchie in the yard & most of the time she still wins! For the most part, I don't think we even think of her as a tripawd, she is just Calamity.
I'm not sure when she broke that toe, she raced at 2 different tracks, one in Florida & then at the track I worked at here in Kansas. She is so stoic I doubt she ever made a fuss and aparently her trainer never noticed. She probably raced through it & maybe was a bit slower 🙁
After we lost her brother Morgan, on the 2nd of March, she was depressed and did not move much off of her bed. I know she misses him but looking back, I think some of that behavior was probably the pain.
I'm just so relieved that this is nothing we have to worry about!

Holy Cow! Our planets are NOT alligned!!!!
On Feb 15th, we lost our sweet Trigger to osteo suddenly, we let him go reluctently.
Two weeks later, we lost my Mama's boy and Calamity's littermate/twin, Morgan to what still confuses me, a "vascular incident to the respirtory center" of his brain. I would have done anything, spent anything to make him well, it was not to be so I let him go. This one broke me really bad.
Then Calamity starts limping, seriously, by now I am freaking out! Y'all already know that she is ok~ Thank God.
Yesterday, I get a panic call from my husband telling me Munchie has broken a toe ~ "Do you have x-ray eyes?" I ask, he replies "Oh, you will see when you get home!" I do see! I have seen MANY broken toes at the racetrack & some you didn't even see the break but had to run your finger over them to hear/feel the crackle, not our Munchie, her phanlage is mangled...it is so apparent & I don't even touch it. I stablized it with a splint and gave her Metacam & tramadol knowing I would get her to our vet in the AM. She rested peacefully through the night, all was good. The report is her 3rd phalange is broken into 4 little pieces! How in the world did she do that?!? She isn't telling but maybe when she is under, she'll spill her secret to Doc Smith! After discussing the few options we had, we chose to amputate the toe. Best thing for her to recover fast & start doing what she loves to do again ~ RUN. I'm waiting for a call from the doc to tell me I can come get her.
I now have 1 greyhound (Kade) left who hasn't seen the vet in the past 5 or 6 weeks. My husband says we are going to wrap him in bubble wrap until the planets get alligned!!

Life is good, so very, very good!!! Gayle enjoyed each and every moment of each and every wonderful day (naps included). She left this world December 12, 2011 – off on a new adventure.
Love Never Ends
Metacam is meloxicam, which is available in a tablet form for people (it comes in a 7.5mg and 15mg tablet.) The local vet here calls it in to my pharmacy often. It's much less expensive than Metacam. You might want to ask the vet about it.

PS I'm so glad Calamity doesn't have osteo!
Sadie is my 9yr old Rott/Shepherd mix. Diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her right scapula 1/28/10. Our brave girl had her amputation 2/13/10 and her last chemotherapy on 6/6/10. Unfortunately, a tumor appeared in her back right leg and on 10/7/2010 Sadie's earthly journey came to an end. On 10/24/2010 we adopted Ranger, a handsome Rott/Lab mix tripawd (got hit by a car) I think Sadie sent him to us.

When it rains it pours, eh? Best wishes for everything clearing up soon!

Shhhhh!!! Don't say (or write) that out loud!!!
So are you at the point now that when you call the vet you don't have to give your name, they know your voice?
You guys are definitely due for a break... oops... I mean some quality time away from the vet!

Lisa: I was a vet tech in a previous life, before being a babysitting grandma, so I know about Metacam/Meloxicam, but thanks for reminding me. I have had a bottle of Meacam here for a while & when it expires ~ or probably in our case, is gone, we will switch to the less expensive version.
Karen: I do believe they DO know my voice!! Or at least we are on a 1st name basis, that's for sure! I have 2 little grand-puggies, I love them to bits!!
I'm sure looking up in the sky for a break (no pun intended!) in the clouds here at the Greyhound Villa!!!!
Munchie is home & resting well. Doc Smith does have her doped up enough though!! She's a screamer, so anything to keep her quiet is allright with me!
Thanks Everyone!

PS: I was wrong about Kade not being "to the vet", he was at the Emergency Vet 3 weeks ago.......to donate blood, my greyhounds are blood donors for VSEC

Doc Smith called this week to say the radiologist report said there "could" be osteo in the femur head of Calamity's left rear leg so back we went for more x-rays. He put her to sleep for this set to maneuver her into all sorts of positions to see everything that needed to be seen in all sorts of angles. He shot around a dozen films altogether. He looked at them, his tech looked at them, I looked at them & a friend looked at them & none of us can see anything that looks suspicious. Doc Smith was waiting for the original films to come back so he can send them all back to the radiologist in one package for her to examine again.
Even though we all think everything is ok, I'm still holding my breath until I get the all clear from the radiologist.
She continues to limp, sometimes refusing to even put down that rear foot 🙁
I just wish this would end & we could get back to our normal~sigh.

Oh, this has to be so nerve-wracking. I hope your nerves are not as easily wracked as mine. Hang in there, everything looks positive so far...praying for the radiologist to agree.

Janie, we're so sorry that there are no answers, that can almost be as difficult as getting an answer, I'm sure. Have you consulted with a certified physical therapist? I'm betting you have but I just wanted to throw that out there.
Thank you for the update. Paws crossed for a good outcome.
