hang in there, caira sue.

Tika first coughed up blood in September, she had pretty pronounced lung mets. Our vets pretty much assumed the same thing, lung mets bursting.

She continued to do it for the last few months. Sometimes quite specatular (in Tim's lap once, yuk), sometimes just little bits.  It didn't seem to slow her down anymore than all the rest of the crap her body was dealing with.  We would always clean her up if necessary or give her a treat to get the taste out of her mouth.

I'm sorry you have to go through this.  Everytime Teek coughed up blood I'd get a little knot in my stomach, but she would just look at me with those big brown eyes and say: What?  After all we've been through, you are going to let THIS bother you? sheesh!

Take care.....

Oh man, Mary!  How scary for you!  But, as you said, Caira Sue is curled up and sleeping soundly, obviously not bothered by whats going on.  I think it's harder for us because we know exactly what is happening, and we fear for our little fur things.  That being said, our doggies have no clue.  She's still got energy, is playing, and has tons more love to give, so don't fear the worst!!  As long as the mighty CS is happy, that's all you can ask for.  Who cares if she has cancer?  Who cares if she's coughing up blood?  She's still the baby you love and that hasn't and won't change.  I'm sorry you guys are going through this 🙁

<3 Laura and Bad Jack (he tried to herd me this morning and bit my calf so today he's back to bad jack)

P.S.  Jack says that if Caira Sue is coughing up blood, she must be a vampire, and that is hawt.  Vampires are so in right now.

Mary, thank dog she is OK. We were worried. Again though, dogs show their resiliency in bouncing back. Can you imagine if it was one of a pawrent who was hacking blood? OMG, there would be drama all over the place. But dawgs, they just take it as it comes, and then move on with life.

We hope nobody ever feels like they have to hold back news, good or bad. It's hard to write about, but it's also therapeutic, and educational (if you hadn't have been online last night, we wouldn't have known that Tramadol can relax the lung muscles, so thank you for that tidbit).

It's all part of coping with this awful disease, and we're all here for eachother no matter what happens. Many hugs to you all.

Dear Mary and Caira Sue: So sorry we are late to send our love. We have been out of the Tripawds loop for a little while. We were heartbroken to see the initial post, but relieved to see today's---that cutie pie Caira Sue is having a good day.

The coughing/blood sounds so scary. Our hearts go out to you. The roller coaster does suck. Wednesday Romeo had a bad day---it was his old stomach problems, not (hopefully) anything to do with cancer, but he was not himself and in obvious discomfort. And I just completely freaked out over everything. My partner could not understand why the same old GI troubles had made me convinced Romeo was about to die. Every thing just takes on such weight. On the flip side, every good thing takes on weight too, doesn't it? Every good day is a bessing for sure.

We hope Caira Sue has another good day tomorrow and you get lots of snuggle time too. That girl has spirit! We know she's a fighter.

Love and good thoughts to you, Eve and Romeo

Thank you all for your notes. It has really helped.

Caira Sue has been happy in the face, but every time she gets active she starts to cough a little. I hope to be able to take her tomorrow to the party, as it might be her last....we will see how she does overnight and in the morning.

No more blood and drama. Poppa (Adam) has been a very doting father today. I think she's enjoying all the attention from the only person she truly considers her alpha.

May 2001-Jan 21, 2010.....I'm a dog and I'm AWESOME!..... Always.

The pawty will only be better with Caira Sue.  Wyatt Ray Dawg has yet to personally witness the greatness that is Caira Sue! We are hoping you make it because every pawty needs a posing for the camera vampire fruit bat. Travis Ray and Codie Rae will be in attendance.  Maybe all the two and three name tripawds can pose for a picture together.  Hope we get to see you all tomorrow.

Ralph is the silent but mighty father of those crazy German Shephard dogs: Codie Rae and Travis Ray.

He wears a cool hat with a feather to hide his own ears.

Oh man, I wish I had been on yesterday!!!  You may have gotten all of this from searching the forums, but Yoda had mets burst twice and the first time he coughed up blood over a couple days.  Sounds like Caira Sue has been coughing up more but that's not necessarily worse, and when Yoda's mets burst more seriously, no blood came up.  You may notice her stool get black, from swallowing blood as well, but Yoda only had that a couple days.  So if you see it, it could pass quickly.  But keep your vet updated, of course - my vet warned me ahead about seeing that.  The first time Yoda had a lung met burst, he completely bounced back in a few days, no blood, no more cough at all, and went back to full energy for a while.  My impression from Yoda's experience was that once the signs of the blood and the cough goes, that that burst incident is over, but new bursts, more and less serious, can happen again any time, unfortunately.  But that's true for all our cancer dogs and I'm sure you knew that.  I'm not sure if one lung met burst actually makes new lung mets any more likely than a dog with lung mets who hasn't had a burst.  Maybe Pam knows, if you're curious.  Hang in there!

If you think of any specific questions about Yoda's experience, feel free to PM me.  And/or I'll probably see your posts in a timely fashion now.  I should be on the site a bunch for the next several days.

More thoughts and prayers coming your way!
