I came home from work this morning and Caira didn't greet me. She didn't even greet me when I came in the room. I had to go get the harness to help her out of bed, as she tried and just stopped with front leg half bent and back legs quivering. She went and did her business and then came back to bed.
Then she started shivering. T 103.2. Rimadyl didn't touch it. She wouldn't drink, but would eat. I finally got wise and opened a can of tuna and squeezed the tuna water into a huge bowl of water. She DID drink that.
But her fever didn't come down. Just got off the phone with UCDavis. There's an oncologist there in the ER on Christmas who just happens to know Caira. What are the odds.
We are waiting 10 more minutes to see if her fever comes down, if not then it's a trip to UCDavis this Christmas.
Sigh. Just when I thought she was doing really well. Poor girl is just not interested in much, and her face says it all-she feels awful...whatever the cause. She will still eat though, if I bring it to her. Her little ears perk up and it's like her face is saying "oh! hey! Thanks, ma!" I assume it's swelling from the cancer causing the fever. She's been on antibiotics for 4-ish days now for a UTI, and it should have helped many other things that might be the cause.
Sorry guys, I guess Santa Barbara is out too. 🙁
Will update you later.

Oh my goodness! Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers! I wasn't gone very long and already I had messages.
Well, her Temp didn't come down right away, but it's now down to 102.5-still high end normal. What got her out of bed? "Those damn kittens."--her words, not mine. They make her crazy when they want to play around her. At first she ignored them, then she did her "kittens" grumble and walked to the edge of the bed and looked at me. Together we got her off the bed. She went outside and peed a ton, guess the tuna water helped! Then she went exploring the outside with her tail up and wagging-hopping all over the yard.
So, even with her temp a little elevated, I'm happy she appears a little better. Still not right (sunken face, kinda tired) but much better. She sat with her Gran-Poppa and shared a pumpkin bread muffin.
I'm sure I'll be taking her temp every 2 hrs now, and she will be annoyed...but at this point I will take annoyed!!
Merry Christmas everyone. Again, thanks for the thoughts and prayers! They must have been working!

Mary and Caira Sue,
Totally understand how frieghten you must be at this time. It is really suprising how compromised their imune system seems to be while on this journey. We have our paws crossed, sending our best pawsitive thoughts over the Dublin grade, and will have you constatly in our prayers. Sorry that we missed you earlier but that is another story to be told later.
Bob & Cherry
PS: While Cherry does like her ice cream, Pumpkin Pie ice cream is her favorite so we understand why your Awesome Caira Sue shared the pumpkin bread muffin.
Glad to hear Caira Sue is feeling a bit better, we hope she gets over whatever has got her down quickly. We'll be thinking of you.

Caira Sue you gave me a fright! Get better. Hugs & Kisses from me and Angel Emily. We are praying for you.
Debra
Debra & Emily, a five year old doberman mix, who was diagnosed with an osteosaecoma. She had a right rear leg amputation on May 19, 2009. On November 10, 2009 she earned her wings and regained her fourth leg.
We had our Christmas brunch a little late today, but rest assured everyone, that Caira Sue was right there with us! Perky and happy as ever. What am I going to do with this girl? This morning I had visions of us losing her so soon. She was lethargic and laying in bed. This afternoon she's smiling beside the table trying (successfully) to get table scraps. I can't even say they were scraps. All 3 of us were handing her over the best peices of the meal!
I just rechecked her temperature (now my dog thinks I'm absolutely nuts....coming at her behind so many times a day!) and shes' still at 102.3.
I'm crushed, CRUSHED about not going to Santa Barbara. My normal response would be to throw caution to the wind and go, but this time she scared me too much. I don't want to be that far from a vet if something were to happen on the road. Sigh. I guess her road trips will be shorter for awhile, or for now on. I'm sure she won't notice the difference. I trip in the car is cool indeed....5 minutes or 5 hrs. I'm just ever so thankful that today was not her day.
