There is one other option you can check into finding a petsitter that will come into your home and stay with your dog(s).  That's what we did when Chuy hurt his leg.  We were going to board him but opted for a petsitter who stayed 24/7 instead.  It turned out to be cheaper for us and was less stressful for Chuy.  Jus tmake sure that they are licensed, bonded and insured.  The girl we used took care of both the dogs and all 7 of our cats for 3 days.  She also brought in our mail for us and it's added security for the house just having someone there while you are gone. 

You have plenty of time to look for someone, interview a few and see who Brody likes too.

Hi-

We boarded Tika about three weeks after her surgery when it was clear she was doing well. She boards at our vet, and we just brought her bed and her favorite toys.  They took good care of her and got her outside.

There's a set of stairs down to the boarding area, but the assistants have always been sweet and walk her around the outside of the building so she doesn't have to worry about her steps.

She's been boarded several times since because my husband and I travel for work and our schedules overlap.  (and some much needed human time) she's done great every time.

If you can find a good reliable pet sitter, that's an awesome option, we use one for our 'quick' trips, but longer stays I leave them with our vet.

Cherry's boarding experience was not very good. We had a blood test just before she went into kennel and it was extremely good. She had boarded many times at this kennel and Cherry and the staff knew each other quite well. I call every few days to check on her and they always told me that she was doing well. They would even go out to her run to make sure that they were accurate in their assessment.

When we went to pick her up, I found a totaly different picture. She was clearly in great distress and her stomach was bloated to the size of a soccer ball. Even the manager said how great Cherry had done as we picked her up. The situation had all fallen apart in less than a day. I do not blame the kennel but it just shows how quickly things can go south. It took nearly six weeks before Cherry returned to her pre-kennel status.

To me it just demonstrates how challenged the immune system has become since the chemotherapy. We are planning a trip to Maui next March and are not too sure how we will deal with the situation if we are lucky eneough to have Cherry with us. (She will be 19months post amputation).
