Update on Bogi so here is what happened: Bogis front right leg was amputated on 6/29 about on 7/4 he started limping really bad with back legs. to the point he hasn't gotten up at all and was just sleeping. Vet thinks its combination of muscles and overdoing and hip displacia ANYHOW... so hopefully we will overcome this hurdle with a ton of rest!

But here is some news ok so they did the bone biopsy PRIOR to amputation because they were not really sure about osteosarcoma it just didn't really look like the "typical osteosarcoma_) so he JUST got the results back and it points to FIBROSARCOMA! I don't know much about that since I researched for two month osteosarcoma and prepared for that one.  Now the pathologist isn't 100 % sure because of some splitting of cells? Didn't understand it all but it certainly looks more to be that than Osteosarcoma so the next plan is to now send of the ACTUAL amputated leg and he is going to split it in half and send it to two labs to get more opinions. When this diagnosis comes what are from your experience that it will still come back Osteosarcoma? How excited should I be or not be? And is Fibrosarcoma a better or worse diagnosis?

Oh and they did already take the stitches out today! YAY

Oh and not sure if I saw it here but someone recommended this place below and I asked my vet to send it to this place as one of the labs, cocomments?  Should I also tell my vet to request to "stage" the cancer from Pathology? for some reason I think I remember seeing that somewhere?

Thanks all Mannie proud mom of 9 1/2 yrs old English Black Labrador Beauty Bogi :)

Jamie......First....yes indeedy YAAAAAAAAAAAAAY for stitches out!!

You will get lots of people chiming i as soon as they see your post because, needless to say, both scenarios are the "norm" on this site

Did you download The Dog Cancer Vook? Info. on both in there too.

I applaud your vet for doing whatever it takes to get the proper diagnosis. I know it's frustrating as all get out right now. Cograts on hanging in there!

Jist wanted you to know I'm sending yo and Bogi....the amazing Bogi......lots of love! Enjoy your massages Bogi! We humans pay a lot for those things!

Jamie
Hugs to you for such a tough time you are having and poor Bogi. When we were told osteosarcoma I ask which one, I was told that it overall didn't make much since we decided to do chemo. With that the drugs were going to be the same used. I think the best is to try to educate yourself to the best potential for Bogi. Make sure you feel confidant in your vet for him. We changed our oncologist for Snoop and found someone we feel very good with. We have an excellent vet we also see. Ask questions, a good vet should have no problem explaining anything. Don't hesitate to change if things don't feel right. You are is his advocate. I think the most difficult when we get bad news as we have with our dogs with this lousy cancer, it can be overwhelming. All you can do is your best and take one day at a time.

Why is this so confusing now they say possible Hermangiosarcoma!??? But didn't rule out Fibrosarcoma either.

What do I do? Vet said he doesn't feel we need to put him thru unnecessary Chemo if its a cancer that won't respond.

This is the 2nd Biopsy now we are waiting on a third!

Why is this so confusing ! My vet told me for sure on FIBROSARCOMA Chemo won't even respond and on Hermangioarcoma it's one of the worst!

What to do? when its so unclear?

Jamie I can't imagine how frustrated you must be. At least you will get the right answers when that 3rd one comes in. Cancer is a frustrating disease unfortunately, but better to know exactly what you're dealing with right? And if it is hemangio, rest assured that it doesn't have to be so dreadful. Check out these two stories about dogs who have beaten the hemangio odds:

I feel sick to my stomach just got final results in

Diagnosis:

Specimen of half section of proximal right humerus: Primary hemangiosarcoma of bone

Comment:

Specimen of half section of proximal right humerus: Primary hemangiosarcoma and fibrosarcoma of long bones of dogs together represent between 5 and 8 per cent of the primary bone tumors of long bones in that animal species as compared to the more common osteosarcoma (~80 %) and chondrosarcoma (~10 %); however, hemangiosarcoma along with osteosarcoma are considered equally likely to produce metastatic disease early in the clinical course of that disorder.

I'm really sorry to hear that Jamie, but remember that a diagnosis doesn't come with an expiration date on Bogi's butt! Read the stories of the hemangio dogs I linked to above, they prove that statistics aren't always right. Look at it like this: at least you have an answer now and you can develop a plan to proceed with the best treatment that will help him stay strong for as long as possible. I know it's hard but you have to be strong for him.
