I just wanted to rejoice here and hopefully shed hope to tripawd pawrents-to-be! When we made the decision to proceed with amputation for our boy, it was just so scary not knowing what was ahead. We are now 18 days post amp and we couldn't be more pleased! We are so blessed with a very smooth recovery for Barlkey, no crying, no infections, no oozing, no anything except restlessness. Barkley is now only on 2 pain meds for his pre-existing hip displaysia and nerve issues in his spine but after this amputation, he does not pant from pain at night any longer!! His spirit is so high and his sparkle shines more and more every single day. His doc rated him about a 5 on a scale on 1-10 for good candidacy for amputation, and now she says he has so much will and drive she is so pleased with his recovery and thinks he will recover very well, much better than a 5! 😀 He starts physical therapy/rehabilitation next week. They will recommend an appropriate diet, accupuntcure, massage, possibly hydrotherapy if they think it is needed (and if I can afford it......that's a different story!) core strengthening and stretching and show me things to do at home for him. We can't wait!!

It's such a scary time going into such a major surgery for your babies, but just roll with it and be in the moment, because that is all you really have. You will bond with your baby in a brand new way with this whole experience. I wish many more success stories to everyone here! Thank you for letting me vent my happiness. It is the BEST decision we could have made for Barkley! A couple of times I actually forgot he had one less leg, if you can believe that, just because his zest for life is so shiny and amazing!

I'm just thrilled to near how well Barkley is doing! I love what your vet said about raising him way above a five!! And to knlw that, in spite of still recovering, in spite of some arthritis, Barkley feels BETTER than BEFORE the amputation!

You "vent" your happiness anytime you want! We LOVE it!!way-confused

And you know what would make this delightful post even better? PICTURES!!!

Cheering you on sweet Barkley...and still grinning ear to ear!!!

Love!

big-grin Thank yoU!!!! I will definitely have to figure the pic posting out! He is a total  HAM for the camera!

I also wanted to share that the past few days I have started to take Barkley outside because the Sun was shining so nicely and sat with him on some blankets. He actually remained calm and stayed there on the blankets with me for 45 minutes to an hour each time just loving being outside again. Nourishing his soul has helped calm his anxiety a bit and a short walk out front has worn him out. YAY!!!!!

What great news! My cat's amputation was in June 2014 and sitting out in the sun together made a world of difference in her recovery. Her joy for life blossomed. Barkley obviously feels the same healing power from the sun.

I'm sure rehab will really help with Barkley's mobility. Good going Barkley!

Great news!!!

Shelby Lynne; Jack Russell/Shiba Inu mix. Proud member of the April Angels of 2014.

October 15, 2000 to April 8, 2014

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

Barkley is a ROCK STAR! Linda this is so wonderful, it made our day here. You guys are all amazing, and we are so grateful you are taking time to share this latest progress. Talk about hope and inspawration!!!

Yes, please do apply for a rehab visit reimbursement, we would love nothing more. You sound so enthusiastic about it, that is wonderful.

Would you have a chance to post some photos? I'd love to feature this in Tripawd Tuesday. Thanks.

Barkley is continuing to do well. He is pushing too hard sometimes though and fatiguing his leg, but ..................we went to our rehab consultation and we start rehab next Friday! 🙂 In the meanwhile, we do an hour of stretching exercises at home daily. Some are super easy for him and others expose his weaknesses. I must say, we are bonding in such a new way at such a deep level. His trust in me is just out of this world. I am overjoyed daily with him!

I submitted everything to the rehab visit reimbursement - Probably too many photos though. LOL! We all know THAT is easy to do! NOW, to figure out how to post pics here! I'll have to click the link provided, Jerry!! I would LOVE to share and be included in Tripawd Tuesday! <3
