Yesterday morning we brought Maya to our wonderful veterinarian to help her to the rainbow bridge.   It had become clear that her time had come.  Though I am filled with an incredible aching sadness,  I am equally filled with joy at the memories of what an amazing dog she was and what a wonderful 8 years we shared with her.  Even as she lay on the table at the vet with catheters placed for the euthanization, she wagged her tail wildly as I entered the room to say goodbye and sit with her as she passed.  I feel so fortunate for all the support that I received from all the special people involved on this site and from my wonderful vet and his staff.  Maya was such a fighter and did so much better than anyone had expected.  She recovered incredibly well from the amputation and lived an amazing and very active 9 months...running, swimming and loving her "Chuck-it" everyday.  My 3 year old wanted to know if God will have a Chuck-it to play with Maya in Heaven?...of course he will.

Thanks so much for all the support you have all offered here...it has helped me tremendously the last 9 months

Bless all of you and your wonderful tripawds and best of wishes to you all as you continue down your paths of

recovery and dealing with OS.

Kathy,

I was wondering about Maya last night and how she was doing. She and you were on my mind for a reason I guess.

Heaven is much sweeter tonight with the addition of your beautiful Maya. I hope and pray that your tears will be replaced with smiles when you think about her life with you. I am sending you my love and a hug.

Kathy,

The memories of Maya's courage and incredible spirit that you shared with us will continue to give Tripawd pawrents the courage to face the unknown with their furry kids. Thank you so much for being a part of our family.

Run free Maya. You will be missed but never forgotten.

xoxo

She lived an amazing and very active 9 months because of your love and she was an inspiration to all tripawds.

I am so sorry for your loss- It is so hard to say goodbye.

From the mouths of babes- of course God will have a Chuck it for Maya to play with in heaven and I'm sure Maya is showing all the other tripawds how to play  with her Chuck it too. I am sure Wrigley will find that pretty cool.

You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Find peace in the wonderful memories.

Heaven calls another sweet angel home. I hope you find peace and comfort knowing that you were hand selected to be Maya's mom. She was so lucky to have you - her wagging tail until the very moment she crossed over proves that. We are thinking of you during this difficult time and hope you can always remember the happy swims you gave her when she could have had no more.

Much love and many prayers,

Kathy, I am so sorry for your loss. If only all dogs were loved the way Maya is/was. You are a hero; you are Maya's hero. She will always be a beautiful girl.

Thank you for sharing your stories of hope and love and loss with me/us.

So many big wrap-you-up-and-hold-you hugs to you and your family.

Thank you and bless you.

We would like to express our deepest regrets at your loss of Maya. I can only echo the words that have been expressed above. Without your love and devotion, Maya would not have had these wonderful last months. We often forget because of the wonderful people who have joined this forum, that most people would not have done what you did for Maya. You are yet one more of the heros who populate this site.
In addition to the rainbow bridge, I have placed a very special "Sunday" strip on one of my web pages. This strip reminds us that what these very special companions have given to us while here for only a very short time, will remain with us always. You can link to my page at http://home.com.....sthere.htm
All the admiration, hugs, and positive thoughts that can be sent go to you now.

Im so sorry to hear about Maya. She was a lucky girl to have pawrents who cared for her so. Remember the good times and find peace in the fact that she suffers no more. The Tripawd gang is one angel stronger.

Sending lots of Labby love to you as you grieve the loss of your sweet Maya.

Hello Friends

I was so comforted by all of your responses, well wishes and kind words...thank you very much!

I was wondering if anyone else who has been down this road before had any suggestions for a way to say thank you

to the wonderful veterinary staff that took such good care of Maya during the last year.  During the course of her care in the last year I have baked them cookies, brought coffee & bagels, dropped off potted plants, baked muffins...etc  but now that she is gone I want to say thanks again for everything they have done.  Does anyone have an idea of a special way to say thank you for not only the excellent veterinary care that Maya received but also how well they took care of me and my children during the course of her treatment?

I appreciate any suggestions you have

Thank you

Oh you are so thoughful.

One thing I know that was done for us in Wrigley's honor is a donation was made in her name to the National Canine Cancer Foundation . I thought that was very touching. I know the Morris Animal Foundation also has a Canine Cancer Campaign. Maybe a donation in their names would be appreciated.

Or is there something your vet's need for the office that you could get- something small?

Hope you and your family are doing well.

We agree with Wrigley, you are so very kind. And those are great ideas too, Wrigley! Also, you could find out if there is a rescue group that they work with, and make a donation to them too. Or, a simple heartfelt letter goes a long way too.

Many hugs going out your way Kathy. We are so honored to have such good peeps like you in our Tripawds family.
