Hi Suzy,
We're so glad we could be there for you and Alpha (who is totally adorable!).
What kind of specialist are your referring to, a surgeon or oncologist?
If seeing an oncologist, here's a great post with questions to ask about cancer therapy.
And some more tips:

Just got back from the Oncologist! Feeling very positive!! From the X-Rays she is very optimistic that it is NOT bone cancer!! She actually said he is such a unique breed and such a young dog that it could be numerous different things!! She said there is a chance it could be a weird unique benign bone tumor or maybe even something as simple as a bone cyst! so we r trying not to get our hopes up but its really hard not to!!
we r still planning on doing the amputation surgery tomoro. she said we could try to remove the tumor and safe the leg but they would have to remove the fibula and remove alot of the tibia so it would be a very long very painful reconstruction surgery. so our vet the oncologist and us all agree this is the best option. he has already started adapting to being a tripawd!
Thank you so much for all ur support! keep your fingers crossed! The biopsy should be back by friday or monday so we know exactly what we r dealing with
Hope all ur pups r doing well!
<3 ALPHA Monster
Yaaaay, finally able to track Alpha down with his own post! He is absolutely adorable! Since I saw this a little late in the day, I guess your appointment is over by now. So how did it go?
One thing that irritated me was I initiated every call with the surgeon after amp....not o e single follow-up call from a tech or surgeon. I initiated a call the third day I think' because she developed a seroma and surgeon had tech call back. My Happh Hannah had a slower, more difficult recovery than some dogs and, had kt not been for the support from this site and empowering me to politley "demand" I speak directly with the surgeon, I would not have been a very good advocate for her I also found that most surge s, or at least a tech, called the day after the pet was ho e to check on them! How nice that would have been!
Hapy Hannah has been for chemo treatments, etc.to the onco "department" I think seven times now, and Iv'e onlh seen the onco for literaly probaby two minutes each in the oublic waiting room before they come and whisk her off for whatever. The most recent o e was n a "roomO to discuss next step...and that "co sultation cost an additional $100-$150 to the follow-up........
I do want to say that my Lnco has been very, very god about returning my calls personally IF I specify I would like to speak directly to her. And I've called very little I might add! I use this site as my main source of info and support!
ANYWAY, buess I'm tryi g to say if it's not a teaching hospital you are going to, You and Alpha DESERVE a little compassionate "reachout" to you from the surgeon and onco
Sounds like you've already been navigating the site pretty well so you're probavly as prepared as ne can possibly be! One thing you can be sure of' Alpha will be pain free and, once recovery takes place, will bemore joyful than ne's been in a long time!
And I apologize if you've already posted about Alpha elsewhere, but K've missed it! Tell us a little bit about that cute boy! How old? Weight? Some of the tings he does that makes you laugh:-) Would LOVE to see more photos!
Didn't mean to bore you! Guess I had a little left-over "pent up venting" to do:-)
And thw crowd roars......Photos of Alpha!!! PLEASE!
Paws crossed for you!

Oh Suzy, that is wonderful news. Too late... I already have my hopes up for you. Best wishes for tomorrow's surgery, I'm sure he will do great.
Adelaide is a young tripawd Husky, from an injury. Her amp was on 10/1/12. She has 4 sisters, Aissa (a senior border collie/chow), Maggie May (a puppy Great Pyrenees), Mathilde and Morrigan and 1 baby brother, Bagheera. We are all watched over by our angel Brendol, who was dx with OSA 1/30/13, amp on 2/6/13, and left us on 8/20/13.
You can read their stories at http://adelaide.tripawds.com and http://brendol.tripawds.com
Sally i'm so sorry for your HORRIBLE DOCTORS!!! One thing i am so thankful for in all this is our vet from Cali actually moved out (SC) here just a few weeks before us! Dr Hansche has known Alpha since he was 6weeks old! He loves our pups as much as we do hes been there since day one for both of them! so he sent us to a really amazing oncologists Dr Risseto she was amazing! she sat and talked with us for over an hour and we never felt rushed! and of course she was so curious about a thai ridgeback! she took him back and showed him off to all the other doctors (we get that alot)

SO glad that you are getting good news on the diagnosis. I just love Alpha's face - itjust makes me smile. We will be thinking of you and sending pawsitive thoughts Alpha's way tomorrow.
Take care and get some rest as the first week or so can be a little sleepless!
Luanne and Shooter
Spirit Shooter was a Miniature Australian Shepherd who was diagnosed with a MCT and had a LF amp 1/28/13 at 13-1/2 years old.
Shooter crossed the Bridge on 8/28/13, his 7 month ampuversary and two weeks from his 14th birthday.
You can NEVER have too many ictures inmmy world---especially when they are as cute as Alpha amd Kaylee!
OMD! ! And those pupoy ictures! I can't believe how little Alpha used to be! Her ears were vigger than she was!
I love the ne where she looks like she's embarrassed and trying to hide her face because her ears are all bandaged up. What a cutie!
These are two well loved dogs who hold a very special place in this family
love the one where Alpha is sleeping n the couch--taking up the whole couch!
Haven't gotten to the faceboo, pics yet, but I look forward to it.
