Happy New Year! I am delighted to report that we puppy-sat a 4 legged, 75 lb, 10 month old Lab from New Year's Eve to Jan 2, and both Ajax and puppy survived with flying colors. In fact, as of yesterday, tripawd Ajax was zooming around chasing a frisbee, and according to puppy's owner, puppy had to sleep all day due to cumulative exhaustion. Go, Ajax!

So bloodwork, ultrasound, xray are all good. Currently cancer free following MCT removal with clean margins, as far as we know at this point. We have 2 more doses of vinblastine. Other than the typical extra thirst and hunger from the prednisone, the vinblastine/prednisone routine has been pretty much uneventful in that he has felt fine and energy level etc. have all remained pretty much unaffected.

In Feb., we turn to the second part of our treatment, which is to continue the prednisone for 3 mos (total of 6 mos), while giving 3 mos of Palladia. I am looking ahead to see what I can expect from the Palladia. I know he will have to have blood work on a regular basis. Beyond that, I haven't been able to determine if there are any predictable side effects from the Palladia, or if experiences are all over the place. The vet said to expect some weight loss on the Palladia, but other than that she didn't predict anything specific.

I'd be interested in anyone's thoughts.

Wow, sounds like Ajax and his buddy partied all weekend!!  Great to hear Ajax is doing well.  We never used Palladia with Max, so I can't offer any information, but I'm sure others who have will chime in!  Please tell Ajax I think he's super cool!!!

Ajax says thanks, and sees that you are in CA - wants to know why his mom starts to drool when someone on this site mentions Flying Dutchman or In 'n Out Burger.  Says he will send authentic Chinese takeout to Maximutt in exchange for finding out what all the fuss is about ...

And thanks for the shout out!  We were not going to let that puppy take us down ...

We haven't actually taken the Palladia, but heard that GI upset is a common side effect. Tripawd Warrior Princess Abby was on it for a while, but discontinued because of the tummy problems. You could PM her mom to get a little more information -- and she also is in the know about the Flying Dutchman.

Yep thanks, I now remember Abby mentioning this earlier when I was still focused on the vinblastine ...

Hope you are well.

I love how you update his treatment plan here, this is such great information for others to follow in case they may need it too. We don't have experience with those drugs so we can't give any help there, but how pawesome that this plan working so well!

Ah, the Flying Dutchman.....yeah, it's one of those things ya just gotta try I guess. There is a "secret menu" from In N Out Burgers with all sorts of good stuff on it, but you have to be in the know! Wyatt Ray just posted about it last night in his blog.

We have no experience with Palladaia - just wanted to comment that I am happy to hear that Ajax & pup had a fun time together! Sounds like Ajax is doing well, especially after a MCT.

Keep us posted on Ajax, and do you have any pictures of him & the pup???

Good for Ajax, keeping up with the pup!

As for the Palladia - as Rio's mom said, we had to pull her off of it due to too many GI troubles. She was on it off and on for 3 months. The diarrhea sort of came and went, so we'd take a couple of days off, but then it started coming back worse and worse so we had to stop completely. One thing I didn't realize until after we stopped was that it was zapping her energy a bit. I thought she was just slowing down from the cancer in general, but when we stopped, holy cow - she could go for an hour+ at the beach in hot weather, running and playing like a maniac.  I don't know if it really did much for her... Over the 3 months she went from 1 lung met to 2, but who knows... If she hadn't been on the palladia, maybe she would have had MANY mets.

I say it's worth a shot. We go to the same onc. as Lucky - you may have seen her blog post (I think from today or yesterday) about his lung mets being completely wiped out by the palladia. (!!) Dr. V. showed us the before and after xrays. All the little spots - gone. Amazing. I believe Lucky also had MCT, but not 100% sure about that. (I know he didn't have OSA like Abby, but don't remember for sure what he had...)

PM me if you have any more questions about it.

And, yeah, Flying Dutchman. Best thing ever. Thinking of taking you up on the offer of FedExing an F.D. in exchange for some good Chinese. Good Chinese is hard to find here!

All the best,

Jackie, Abby's mom

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!

Jackie - I'm in on the food exchange, and also thanks for the info.  It's always good to know when it may be the meds zapping energy vs. the illness.

Cathy - yes, I have pics and videos of Ajax taking down the pup but I have never managed the upload thing, not b/c there arent' sufficient instructions but b/c I don't have the patience to follow them.  I can email the pics to someone to upload ...

Ajax, if I could ship you an In-N-Out cheeseburger that could stay nice and hot until it got to you, I would!  What state are you in?  Maybe we could meet somewhere in the middle?  wink

New York!  How the Big Apple doesn't have an In 'n Out Burger is beyond me - maybe it's the whole drive-thru concept that is at issue ...

So if Ajax and the Max Clan are meeting in the middle, that will be a couple of hours from me! I'm in!
