My Rottie Shultz is 6 years old and at the begining of the new year lost his leg to bone cancer. With the help of family we where able to get the leg amputated and we underwent the Chemo treatments. He adapted extreamly well to three legs and as of our last visit is still cancer free.

But what we where told was a possbile strain on the remaining back leg progressed to total lameness of the leg, followed by lack of bladder and bowel control. We took him to our regular vet and was told it was neurologial in nature. With a limited number of tests to determin what it could be it was finaly settled on an MRI..the bad news it would cost close to $2000.00.

With a huge fund raising push on my end we have managed to get over $1200 and have the MRI booked for later this week. There have been improvements since the vet visit such as, pain reflex and bowel control returning [well untill the one medication gave him bloody stool, but that is improving to regular diarrhea now and on the mend]

The vet figures it is either cancer in the spine, herniated disk or pinched disk, or an infection. So we are now treating for bad/pinched disk and infection till we can get the test done. We got an animal chiropractor to come and look at him and she did verify that his last two vertearea where out of alighment, but could not tell if it was pinched or herniated.

Anyone else ever have/heard of this happening?

Welcome and thanks for joining! Sorry to hear about Shultz, we hope it is not a neurological issue, in which case regular rehab and strengthening exercises will help keep him on his feet! If you are seeing a chiropractor, be sure they are working under the supervision of a vet. See our Cal Animal Rehab videos for more helpful information.

Treats and good stuff are definitely the way to go.  Spoil him every day you have.  I am so sorry the news was not what you wished to hear.  You and Shultz have fought a good fight and it ain't over til it's over.

Sending many good thoughts your way.  Cancer does suck.

After much deliberation, our family has decided it is time for Schultz to take his final trip..After a dinner of steak and breakfast of chicken, he goes to the vet today. We are going to miss him so much! But it is not fair to him, to make him go through the pain that he is experiencing. We know he will be going on to a better place. With all our love and hearts we will see him off on his final journey. cry

I am so sorry to hear of the news.

Take comfort that you are making the right decision for Schultz, and he will be at a much much better place where there is no pain, no tears.

Thoughts and prayers are with Schultz, and your family.

I am so sorry. This is by far the hardest decision to make. My thoughts are with you today and in the coming days as you find a way to heal.

Stormme and Schultz, we are so very sorry.

You weren't with us very long here and we are so sad that we didn't get to know you better. May the love you have for each other light the way during this difficult time and forever after.

Oh, I am so sorry about Schultz.  How heartbreaking.  I know it was a difficult choice but what a selfless act of kindness.  He knows how much love you have for him and he will be running free without pain once again.

My deepest condolences to you and your family.
