Dear Wendy,
Everyone has already given you such good advice - I don't have any advice to add but want you to know that we are holding you in our hearts, hands, and paws at this time. We also agonized over chemo - it is a very difficult decision. Whatever you decide is best for Henri, we're all here for you. Best wishes, and healing thoughts across the miles...
Hugs,
Holly and Holly's mom
Holly joined the world of tripawds on 12/29/2009. She has a big little sister, Zuzu, who idolizes Holly and tries to make all of her toys into tripawds in Holly's honor. And she's enjoying life one hop at a time!

Dear Wendy,
This is a most difficult and heartwrenching time you are facing right now. I think you can see by this website and all of the comments here, that we've all agonized over the best course of action to take and have experienced this emotional turmoil and trauma that can be so overwhelming. There are so many great comments on here for you to assess. My comment would be to follow your instincts since you know Henri best. Whatever decision you make will be the right decision for Henri. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
My sweet golden Mackenzie. She became my angel on Dec 29, 2010 at the age of 8 1/2 although she was always my angel from the time we brought her home. She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in Sept 2009 and officially became a tripawd (front leg) on Nov 5, 2009. She will be forever in my heart and now she's running free with all of our other tripawd heroes. I love you Mackenzie!
Wendy, this is the most difficult time. I think you've received a collection of the very best advice there is and still there is no firm, absolute answer.
By contrast, chemo was not an option for Cemil because of the cost. The best I could do is an alternative treatment. I started down that path determined to enjoy him as long as I could, and for us, it has worked out well. I don't know what tomorrow holds but I don't spend much time thinking about it (denial is my friend). Today is all there is. Somehow, you'll have to make a choice, and then don't look back--don't waste any days you have with Henri--enjoy the love you share. That's what it's all about.
Praying you'll find peace with your decision...

Wendy,
I'm sorry for this tough decision facing you. It is so hard, especially when a dog is older. I don't know why I am writing because I do not have any experience with that chemo drug. I just wanted to tell you we are thinking about you and Henri and wish the best for you both and your family. Opie's mom (Nancy)
Dear Wendy: How are you and Henri holding up? How is Henri recovering. We've been thinking of you and sending good, healing thoughts your way. The first few weeks are really rough. I think I cried every day, but also rejoiced in the small steps. We just kept repeating, "We did this to save Romeo's life."
We did not follow as strict a holistic regime as some, but in the beginning we did Chinese herbs, Vit E and fish oil supplements, and acupuncture. I think it gave Romeo a good start. If you decide to try this, just make sure your acupuncturist/herbalist is a licensed
veterinary acupuncturist (you can find this info on line---let me know if you need help and I will dig out the link). Now we try to do acupuncture every 4-6 weeks. Also, I think Dasiquin is a great supplement for joints.
A few weeks ago there was the story of Lilli---a lab/boxer mix who made it two years post-surgery just on love! No extra treatments.
Many different paths. Please let us know how you and Henri are doing.
Love, Eve

Check out Jerry's Blog -> Canine Cancer Resources Page and look under the section "Holistic, Alternative Medicine" (under the Chase Away K9 Cancer banner about half way doen the page). there you will find various links to information regarding holistic and alternative veterinary care, including finding acupuncture specialists for pets.
We also posted more information and a video about Jerry's acupuncture visit in the Tripawds News blog .
