I have been waiting to hear back from the radialogist about Nixon. We went to get the staples removed from his collision with the porch two weeks ago yesterday and get a chiropractic treatment. Nixon had a lot of reads but we expected that after a high speed collision with a stationary object and his head. He still easily moves at 15.to 20 mph and he was moving fast.

When he was adjusted next to his remaining shoulder blade he snapped his teeth at the vet to tell him to quit it. This was an automatic reaction. With further probing of the area, Nixon continued to let us know it hurt. The two reasons that dogs show pain during activator chiropractic adjustments are fractures abd tumors. Soft tissue injuries, rarely. We went back for xrays and my vet says he has no idea what it is bit he saw a spot in the area that Nixon had pain. He was not sure if it was new because although we have a year and a half of xrays, we were not focused in on that spot. So we sent them all off to a radiologist to review. It did not look like a lesion, there is no bone loss, but it is a concern and we will do follow up xrays in 3 weeks. The radiologist report should be back in a couple of days.

Nixon is fine. He is playing with toys, roaching on his back, demanding car rides, and flying into the kitchen every time he hears me in the pantry to beg for treats. I am trying so hard to not worry and just Be More Dog with him. We had discussed going back to NC State for scans but I promised Nixon I would not take him back. He hates being there and it causes him tremendous anxiety. Putting an 11 year old dog under anesthesia who has already been through so much just seemed to be for me, not for him.

Just so people know Nixon's history, he lived at NC State in ICU for a week in 2010 after he had a serious spinal cord injury and was paralyzed for 3 days. We were allowed to bring him home once bladder function returned. He then did 4 months of physical therapy at Arbor Creek in Holly Springs, NC and made an almost complete recovery.

In April of 2013, he spent another 4 days there for his amputation.

We then started physical therapy at State and Nixon was son anxious that he could not relax and stood for 8 hours straight just a week after amputation. I had told them I was just 10 minutes away and if he had any problems to just call me. I don't understand how a vet and physical therapist could think that standing for 8 hours straight was normal for a greyhound or even healthy for a recent amputee. Nixon strained his neck and was screaming in pain when I went to pick him up. The vet in charge of the physical therapy department got defensive and refused to acknowledge they did anything wrong. They told me his cancer had returned in his neck and he needed to head to radiology immediately to see how bad it was. There would be a 4 to 6 hour wait till we could be seen. We did not wait. I took him home, got my vet to do xrays, there was nothing. He had an obvious soft tissue injury. This delayed him starting chemo and was extremely painful. Nixon screamed every time he stood up for a week.

We had about 5 more visits to the vet hospital and I promised him at the last one, we would never go back.

Poor handsome Nixon surely has been through some rough times.....I love Greyhounds, they are in a class all by themselves....They are strong, resilient, and regal. I have met many Greyhounds while working at my vet clinic and fell in love with them.

I am hoping this new bump is nothing serious, and Nixon's pain is resolved quickly. It is obvious he has the best care, and unending love from you to help him through this......and I surely understand the vet thing and not going back.....

Please let us know the results when they come in and I will say a few prayers for you and Nixon.

NIIIIIIXXXZONNN!! Geez! I had no idea of some of the challenges you have endured young man!!!

Oh, do want to say glad you've gotten your stitches out and that recovery is complete! Sometimes it helps to have a hard head, huh?way-cool
I
Ingrid, to tell you not to worry is futile. However, do remind yourself that Nixon feels GREAT! That is a HUGE clue to he is doing just fine...and shall continue to do so!!! Heck, he could have done something to his shoulder while rough housing with Cookie and was bumped into something. I'm sorry Nixon bit the nice Chiro., but I wouldn't have mindd in the least if he had bitten all those people tending to him while he was staning for eight hours after his surgery! Just so wrong!!

And kudos to you for knowing putting Nixon through more "stuff" at NC would cause more harm than good!! Nixon is THOROUGHLY enjoying his life and his senior years! What a victory!! What an amazing dog...and human!!!
WE LOVE YOU AND NIXON AND COOKIE!!

Keep us posted and maybe get so.e chocolate chip cookies for everyone! Nixon gets two!

Nixon is not in any obvious pain. There is no panting and no weight loss. He has not been on any pain meds in almost a year. It only hurts when you press on it. He still does a very deep downward dog every time he gets up. Nixon loves to stretch. He is still demanding walks and length and time has not been impacted.

Sally, he did not actually bite the vet, just a warning shot. He wants to go meet people when we are out and about and I worry about doing that because some people are aggressive or clumsy and I am not sure if he thinks it is ok to bite strangers. This Saturday is our annual greyhound picnic and at least the're I can let people pet him with a warning to be soft and just pet his head.

Laurie, you have no idea the crazy that comes out of this dawg. :) He has an assortment of body pillows in the house and when he is playing, he dives over them with much enthusiasm. He is very binary. He is either on or sleeping. :)

I'm glad to hear the pain isn't obvious or constant, that's a great sign!

Have a ball at the picnic this weekend, I know Nixon will. Can't wait for the pics.

The radiologist finished his review and it is good news. The leading thought is that it just a soft tissue injury from the collision 2.5 weeks ago. We will still recheck in 3weeks or if he starts having any other symptoms. The only way to really confirm is a CT scan or bone scan but that requires going to the vet school.

I am feeling a lot better. Someone asked how much we have spent on Nixon over the years this morning and I have never added it up. Nor do I plan to. My little diva is worth it.

Oh Yipee for you and Nixon.  I cannot believe how rude people can be.  I would never tell another human being what I have spent on my Jake, and I would do it all again in a heartbeat.  Enjoy and show off your beautiful boy this weekend. Let him have fun and strut his stuff!

So. SO COOL! I'm really hoppy to hear that news! Of course he's sore, that was a CRAZY crash!

Next time someone asks what you've spent on him, ask them what they have spent on their two-legged human. See how that one goes over! Hah!

Give that special, gentle soul a big ol smooch from us. You guys will have a blast this weekend.
